$AEHR (-2,79%) A new share has been added to my portfolio today. A real insider tip from the small-cap sector in which I see a lot of potential. I became aware of the share through Crossroads on X.
Aehr is a US-American specialist for test and burn-in solutions in the semiconductor industry. Put simply, they ensure that the chips of the future don't give up the ghost prematurely
.
- The "hidden champion": They build test systems that can test entire silicon wafers simultaneously before they are even cut up. This saves manufacturers enormous costs.
- The enabler for mega trends: Without Aehr's technology, there would be high failure rates for electric cars (silicon carbide chips), AI servers (gallium nitride) and optical data cables.
- Growth story: The company is currently transforming itself from a pure EV supplier to an indispensable partner for AI infrastructure and high bandwidth memory (HBM).
In a nutshell: Aehr sells the "seals of approval" for the high-performance chips that will power our world of tomorrow.
I see Aehr Test Systems as a massively underestimated investment at the interface of AI infrastructure and power semiconductors. While the market primarily labels the company as a supplier for the weakening e-car market (silicon carbide), its true potential lies in its technological monopoly position in gallium nitride (GaN) and high bandwidth memory (HBM).
1. my technological "edge": wafer-level testing
My central argument is the efficiency of the test procedures. Aehr is currently the only company that already tests GaN semiconductors on a large scale at wafer level. wafer level (before the chips are separated).
- Cost advantage: Defective chips are sorted out before they are installed in expensive packages. This saves customers millions.
- Barrier to entry: The competition lags behind technologically, which gives Aehr a head start in the fastest growing chip sectors.
2. diversification: away from EV, towards AI & storage
I am not investing in an "e-car play" here, but in the infrastructure of the AI revolution:
- AI data centers: The switch from silicon to GaN in data centers (due to higher energy efficiency) makes Aehr systems indispensable.
- HBM & DRAM: The ability to test complex 3D memory stacks (HBM) makes Aehr an indirect beneficiary of the Nvidia boom, as without high quality
- AI accelerators cannot function without high-quality memory.
3. financial stability & timing
My thesis is based on an anti-cyclical entry opportunity:
- Clean Balance Sheet: The company is debt-free and has a solid cash position, which minimizes the risk of insolvency or dilution.
- Operational turnaround: We are at the end of a difficult transition year. I expect a massive acceleration in sales in the second half of the 2026 financial year.
- Valuation: After the share price decline, the downside potential is limited by the cash reserves and book value, while the upside from new major customers (besides Onsemi) is enormous.
4. risk management
Of course I am aware of the risks:
- The dependency on a few major customers is still there, but is decreasing due to the expansion into the storage and AI market.
- I accept short-term volatility due to geopolitics (tariffs) in order to benefit from technological superiority in the long term.
My conclusion: I am taking advantage of current price weaknesses to build up my position. As soon as the market realizes that Aehr is not an "EV appendage" but a critical enabler for GaN and HBM in the AI world, I expect a significant re-rating of the share.
