Voice control will remain optional, but I also believe that browsers will disappear.
AI apps will simply prepare the information they are looking for in the format preferred by the user.
5 years still sounds ambitious, but who knows. Maybe it will happen even faster 🤷‍♂️
The prediction horizon is becoming increasingly difficult.

What nonsense... Maybe "searching" on the Internet will change. But there will certainly still be browsers. Where else are all the business applications going to be accessed?

In my opinion, 5 years is too ambitious. Sure, AI has changed the process of searching for results online, but there are still too many use cases that make a browser valuable for me.

I like having a browser with multiple tabs better than having to install 20 apps to reach all the platforms I need. I don't just use the browser to get information, but also to work with SaaS applications.

I now work as a Cloud Architect with Azure and even though I mostly prefer CLI applications to the Azure Portal, this also has its justification.

There are also many other systems that can be administered via the browser. Think of systems such as NextCloud or other applications that users usually don't access via apps but via an interface in the browser.

You would have to develop an app for everything or find another way to access them without even touching a browser. Downloads would also be affected - I download a lot of things via the browser or websites I visit there and not via the App Store on Mac or the Microsoft Store on Windows.

To summarize, I think this is quite realistic, but I don't think it will happen soon enough. At the moment, a browser is still very important, and not just for obtaining information.

Regarding Perplexity: I don't think they were at all concerned with the browser itself, but simply with the huge number of users who use the browser. An almost infinite amount of data to feed models with.
