As I understand it, this is possible as a German and some brokers even offer registration as a service. But it could also be that I have misunderstood something.

Registration is not a problem and can also be done from abroad. However, shareholder gifts may only be sent within Switzerland. Here is the direct link to the PDF from Lindt and Sprüngli:
