What do you do with shares/companies that you have sold?

We sell our shares for various reasons:

  • The investment case no longer works out
  • We need the money for a purchase, move, wedding, etc.
  • Buy other shares
  • Extract profit
  • Reduce loss

&many more...

But what happens to shares that you have sold? Do the shares disappear from your field of vision or do they end up on your watchlist?

Adidas $ADS (-0,85%) ,Reality Income $O (+0,67%) and American Tower$AMT.

Three of many stocks that I have sold in recent months/years and now find exciting again.

I often sell a stock because I want to buy another stock or because my investment case is in danger or is no longer working out.

I then sell the share - but I leave the share out of consideration for the time being. I then no longer follow the share price or look at valuations, quarterly results, etc. I don't want to do anything more with the share.

I want to have virtually nothing more to do with the share😂🫢

How is it with you?

Of course, they'll be on the WL so that you'll be annoyed when it really goes up afterwards.

Stocks that no longer meet expectations and fill the loss pot fly out and then out of sight and out of mind. Except, of course, for exciting stocks like mine, for example. $SMCI, sell and watchlist and recently back in at the low.

In the case of $AMT, what made you sell right now?

I really do keep a list of all my ex-positions. In fact, there hasn't been a single sale that I've ever been annoyed about. Out of 21 sold positions, only 3 are currently above my selling price. Maybe because I find good exit points or because I used to invest in complete garbage, if I had to guess maybe the latter 😝. I could imagine re-entering a few of them at some point because the investment case is only temporarily suspended (e.g. $4523), but I can't imagine ever re-entering most of them.
Even after I trim positions because they are very hot/expensive, I usually keep 10% and rebuy when they dip, usually along the rest of the market.

I only sold 1 share (at a profit) and then bought it again at $ASML

Otherwise once gone always gone. I no longer look at the shares either.
