I didn't even notice this short-term Tupperware hype. Why did so many people get into it for short-term speculation?

@ProMau This is called a short squeeze. If you do this, you have to be very quick. Hedge funds speculate that the company is going to fall flat, or short the share, so they speculate that the price will fall and they can buy at the "cheap" price. So speculate that the price falls and they can then buy at the "cheap" price. So they lose money when the price rises. Then there are forums on which some dudes then agree to buy the share to wipe out the hedge funds. This has the consequence that the hedge funds themselves have to buy the share, so the price rises. The whole thing then drives the prices up enormously. See $GME, $BBBYQ and $TUP. At some point, however, the run is over and when that is the case, the price collapses again. So those who got in early have made good profits. Those who got in late have made little to a loss.
