getquin Daily Summary 23.08.2022
Hello getquin,
a lot happened again today. Inflation continues to rocket, kites are back in, and automakers are fighting for raw materials in Canada. How this all makes sense, you can read here:
Europe🌍:
1. inflation on rocket flight
The German Bundesbank predicts 10% inflation. That's in the institution's latest monthly report as its estimate for the fall. Citi Bank, meanwhile, predicts that inflation in the UK will exceed 18% in January. All of this can be attributed mainly to rising energy prices due to the Ukraine war and growing fears that Russia will soon turn off the gas completely.

2nd Winter is coming (again)
Game of Thrones is back, and with full success for HBO. The GoT spin-off House of the Dragon was the biggest premiere in the history of the network, which is also responsible for series like Euphoria and Westworld. A full 10 million viewers were tuned in (only!) in the U.S. when the first episode played out on Sunday night. Still, the stock of parent company Warner Bros. Discovery sank -2.87% today.
In Germany, the premiere will be shown on Sky on Sunday, Aug. 23. Will you be tuning in?

3rd BlackRock launched bitcoin trust
Recently, BlackRock announced a cooperation with Coinbase. Thanks to this, institutional clients of BlackRock's Aladdin trading platform were able to purchase Bitcoin in a more direct way. Now BlackRock is going a step further and has stated on their corporate website that they have launched a Bitcoin Private Trust. "This is a bitcoin investment fund in the form of a private trust, but is currently only targeted at U.S. institutional investors."

4. VW tries its hand at collecting raw materials in Canada
Volkswagen and Mercedes agree that Canada will be a crucial partner in the raw material shortage, especially for nickel, copper and cobalt. VW has now announced that it will be the first German automaker to seek a direct stake in mines in Canada. As Handelsblatt reported in advance, the automaker and the Canadian government will sign a memorandum of understanding this Tuesday to expand electric vehicles. The parties are meeting to explore how Canada can contribute to VW's supply of raw materials.

Fun Fact:
One month to settle trades! When stocks were traded in physical form in the 1980s, it could take more than a month to settle stock trades. After the introduction of electronic clearing machines in the mid-1990s, the settlement process was shortened to 14 days. Today, the same process takes two days.
