Going all-in on Bitcoin—stupid or understandable? 🟧🫣

I’m actually seriously considering turning my current investment strategy completely upside down.

Up until now, the MSCI World has basically always been my core investment. But lately, I’ve been toying more and more with the idea of selling almost all of it and shifting my portfolio heavily toward Bitcoin.

Of course, I’m aware that this involves significantly more risk and that I’d be taking on extreme concentration risk. At the same time, though, I’m finding myself wondering more and more often whether, in my mid-20s, I really want to be so defensive and diversified—or whether now isn’t actually the perfect time to consciously take on a little more risk.

So I’m just asking the group:

What would be the strongest arguments for and, above all, against this move?

I’m less interested in the typical “BTC 🚀” comments and more in how you actually see this playing out in the long term. #btc

Don't go "all in." My opinion hasn't changed over the past 4 years, and you can read it here:

If you like, you can certainly give Bitcoin a high weighting in your portfolio.

@GoDividend Since when do you need elections for that? 🤷‍♂️

I took the plunge in 2022 and shifted my entire stock portfolio into Bitcoin. I’ve never regretted it.

But I can’t say it’s easy when my entire net worth plummets by 50% yet again 😅 I’m so convinced of Bitcoin’s potential that I can weather these downturns, take advantage of them, and buy more. I do think, though, that this isn’t for everyone.

And I, too, would like to diversify a little again in the future. My ideal allocation would be about 70% BTC and 30% global ETF. That way, I’ll have some upside potential, but also some downside risk during bear markets.

Think this through carefully and don’t act on emotion just because BTC has risen sharply in recent days. Sleep on it for a few days and really think it through. That would be my advice😘

@stefan_21 Thanks for the advice 👍 In that case, I’ll let it all sink in for another week or two before I do anything.

And even if I do decide to go for it, it won’t happen overnight anyway 😄 My ETFs are still with Scalable. It can easily take 10 days for them to be sold, the taxes to be paid, the money to be deposited in my main bank account, and then transferred on to TR 😂

So I’ll inevitably have a little more time to think it over, haha

@stefan_21 What? Sleep on it for a few nights? By then, Bitcoin will have easily broken the 150k mark.

@DonkeyInvestor Don't scare me like that😭
@DonkeyInvestor Yeah, it's about time—I was just about to ask you why it's taking so long.

@Solitair Sorry, as president, I have other responsibilities as well and can't take care of everything at once.

I can't say it enough! As soon as it goes up 20 percent after a 50 percent correction, everyone gets hit by FOMO again. Don't rush into anything, or you'll be the next one to get taken out!

@TheRealPowell If my investment horizon is 10 years, feel free to “pick me up” the next time the market takes a dip. Just make sure you can still find me in 2035 😂

In my opinion, putting all your eggs in one basket is always a mistake unless you’re 100% certain—based on insider knowledge—of a stock’s direction. With Moderna, you could have nearly tripled your money, but those are usually just lucky breaks.
I’m firmly in favor of diversifying your investments.

I’m also a fan of investing a portion in Bitcoin. But I also have to @stefan_21 that going “all in” on Bitcoin isn’t for everyone. For me, for example, it wouldn’t be the right choice, since I don’t want to take on that concentration risk. I tend to compare Bitcoin to a single stock. Even if it were Apple or Microsoft, I wouldn’t want to go “all in” on them.

The important thing about your decision is that you don’t end up saying later, “I wish I’d done it differently,” even if your plan doesn’t work out 100% the way you imagined. As long as you stand behind your decision, no matter how it turns out, stick with it.

@InvestingJourney Thanks for your opinion 👍 I definitely understand where you're coming from

In my opinion, Bitcoin is a must-have in any portfolio. But how much should you actually invest? I recommend that you familiarize yourself with Bitcoin and the various strategies for investing in it, if you haven't already. Then you'll be able to make the right decision.
2
Just go with a conservative 70/30 split.
So, 70% Bitcoin and 30% MSCI World.
2
image de profil
@Solitair But calling a 70% Bitcoin allocation “conservative” is pretty bold, too 😂 I’ve always liked the 70/30 split, though. Thomas Kehl would be proud of me 🥹
image de profil
I don't think you can give any general advice on this. It also depends on how much you want to invest.
In the long run, in my opinion, you can’t go wrong with BTC, but you probably shouldn’t put all your eggs in one basket...
You have to figure out what makes you feel comfortable and lets you sleep soundly.
I’ve been slowly rebalancing my portfolio over the last 8 weeks, but I’ve set a limit of about 25% of my portfolio (though, if things really take a nosedive again, you could always add a little more…—oh crap…).

@Invest-Fuzzi I currently own 1.59 BTC and would actually like to increase that to at least 2 whole BTC. At the current price, I’m roughly 27k short of that, which I’d have to pull from my MSCI World portfolio and reallocate accordingly.

That would mean Bitcoin would then make up about 62% of my portfolio. It’s obviously a significant concentration risk, but I think I could handle it🥲

Still, I’m going to let it sit with me for a few more weeks before I actually make any reallocations👍
1
image de profil
@Invest-Fuzzi If things really hit rock bottom again, the limit will be blown anyway. We know that all too well😂
1
image de profil
@Scorcer That’s a good starting point… Well, since my portfolio is about the same size, I can totally relate.
I have 1 BTC and actually considered increasing it to two, but then the price went up (too) quickly.
I’m going to wait for now. If it keeps going up, I’ll hold off; if BTC gets back into the 55k range, I’ll top up…
Since you’re quite a bit younger than I am and closer to having 2 BTC, I think you can easily go ahead and buy the remaining 0.41 BTC. It doesn’t have to be right away. I think there will still be (at least minor) pullbacks...
1
image de profil
@Scorcer Yeah, I guess you're right😁
image de profil
@Invest-Fuzzi Yeah, I noticed that too when I read your posts and looked at your portfolio allocation, haha. We’re basically in the same boat😂

Just like you described, I want to give it a shot, too. Hoping for some minor pullbacks, and if they don’t happen, oh well. Then my World will just have to take a bit more of a hit😂

Wishing you all the best on your journey, and hoping you still reach 2 BTC at your desired price! 🙌
1
image de profil
@Scorcer Thank you 😊 and I wish you lots of success and a little luck, too 🍀
It's also nice to find two similar strategies and share ideas...
1
image de profil
@Invest-Fuzzi I also think it's kind of funny how similar the priorities and the thinking behind them are 😂 It's nice to see that I'm not alone in this 🥹

You're a victim of FOMO. You're only having these thoughts now that the BTC price has gone up. That's what I'd think about first.
1
image de profil
@Mit44inRente I've actually been thinking about this for at least a month. A week ago, I finally took the plunge and invested a relatively large sum in BTC. Since a trend reversal might be on the horizon, I'm naturally trying to jump on the bandwagon in the hope that this is the start of a new bull market. Obviously, FOMO is kicking in now 😂
image de profil
@Scorcer My humble advice: You’re young and can—and should—take more risks. But only 10% manage to beat the market in the long run. What makes you think you’ll be among that 10%? I’d consider your All World ETF as your core holding—and keep it that way forever. It will always deliver the market’s return. Going “all in” on BTC could pay off, but would you be okay if all your money were gone tomorrow? You need to ask yourself that question seriously.
image de profil
Just ask yourself honestly whether you would have taken this step if BTC had plummeted 20% last week instead of rising. If the answer is yes, go ahead and do what you can't help but do. If the answer is no, it's FOMO.

we are humans,we make mistakes. Give yourself place to be wrong at,diversify slightly, going all is a gamble, regardless on what you do it on.
image de profil
@YehudaDoggo Diversification is really just for people who don't know what's going to go up😂😂
image de profil
@Scorcer The thing is, nobody really knows what's going to go up☺️
1
@Scorcer do you have 100% accuracy rate in ANYTHING?100% success rate? Because we are humans and we make mistakes,we are not robots and it is completely fine,as long as we are aware of this.It is in our nature to make mistakes and study,it is in our nature to adjust.
There needs to be some concentration but too much is too risky+you yourself are not all in on bitcoin so according to your thinking, why aren't you all in on Bitcoin?
1
image de profil
@YehudaDoggo Don't worry, I'm definitely factoring my mistakes into my plans😂
I mean,I do like your setup honestly, half all world and the other half into what you chose(bitcoin in your portfolio and in mine individual stocks).
I definitely think it is a better approach to it, you can be concentrated in only part of your portfolio and 50-50 is much better than all in.
1
image de profil
@YehudaDoggo Of course, I was just kidding, haha 😂 That’s exactly what I was thinking when I decided to buy Bitcoin a week ago. Now the FOMO is slowly kicking in, and I keep crunching the numbers to figure out where I might be in a few years if I adjust the allocation 😂

Of course, it would be smarter to just leave the allocation as is for now. I’ll just keep thinking about it, do some more research, and look into different strategies. If I do end up changing anything, it’ll only be in a way that I can still stand behind—even if the investment doesn’t turn out as hoped in the end 👍
I don't really know bitcoin well enough to be truly bullish on it but I like your approach man.Good luck.

@YehudaDoggo Thank you so much—I wish you all the best, too💕
image de profil
Everyone here suddenly has FOMO—it's crazy! Six months of nothing but complaining, and now that things are picking up a bit, everyone's freaking out........🙈
image de profil
I've done it before, but I wouldn't do it again. A profit of just under 100k plus 50% tax-free is all well and good, but I would have been better off with gold.
image de profil
When you're young, it's perfectly fine to take on higher risks. In my opinion, however, this is better suited to investments like individual stocks, where you can identify value based on fundamentals or speculate on predictable trends. I’m a Bitcoin investor myself, but with Bitcoin, it’s impossible to assess fundamental trends or price movements. That’s much easier with individual stocks.
