Trade: Boston Scientific

Since my last trade hasn't paid off (yet)—probably due to the overall market—here's the next one. A small position of 30 shares $BSX. (-0,53 %) Intended as a swing trade over a few weeks to months.

The rationale is almost purely technical. Very strong support, heavily oversold on the weekly and monthly charts, and emerging momentum on the daily chart. Fundamentally, a lot must be priced in after such a sell-off. There have also been some insider purchases recently.

As we’re seeing today, on days like this—and overall in an environment that’s pricing in interest rate hikes—pharmaceutical stocks are performing well.

As always, it’s tightly hedged. A similar setup to the one $PODD (+1,45 %) a few weeks ago, which turned out to be a winner.

If you ever find yourself bored, feel free to post and explain how you find these kinds of technical entry points. Do you use a stock screener? What tools do you use? How did you learn all this? I find swing trading really exciting and would love to learn more about it. For example, I watch the YouTube channel “10x Trading”—do you know it? Do you watch stuff like that, too? I think your posts here—and especially your comments on other people’s posts—offer real value :) Thanks!

@Sebbster Thank you so much for your kind feedback.

I think I mentioned something about this in a comment on a post somewhere. When it comes to stocks, I usually don’t use a screener—I just stumble across a stock and then quickly open the chart on TradingView. I have the basic subscription there (~$40/year). I display the VRPR and RSI indicators and then look at the different time frames (daily, weekly, monthly).

I came across this particular stock, for example, on the @wirliebenaktien Instagram account, where a user had asked if they could roast “his money-burning machine” 😁

Another source I came across—for example, on $PODD —is ceowatcher.com. They track insider purchases and rank them based on specific criteria.

If I like a setup from a technical perspective, I’ll do a quick Google search or use AI to see what caused the sharp sell-off. If there’s nothing fundamentally “wrong” with the stock—just a few themes and a rerating—then that’s usually already priced in. Sure, that can go wrong sometimes—that’s what stop-losses are for.
But I’ve learned for myself that stocks just go up and down, and when they’re going up, everyone gets euphoric and comes up with all sorts of reasons why they’ll keep climbing even higher. Conversely, there are plenty of reasons why a stock gets written off when it’s performing poorly. But if the company is fundamentally sound, then every downtrend eventually comes to an end. And I usually try to determine that from a technical perspective. I find setups like this exciting—stocks that have been heavily sold off but are then technically oversold and are in a strong support zone.

I also follow an Instagram account called “overkilltrading,” which has built a tool using various indicators to help identify entry and exit points for swing trades. He also has a good Discord server.

I’d be happy to tell you more if you’re on IG—I’m @jkobsmn there :)

@jkb92 Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the feedback :) I'll take a look at everything. Unfortunately, I don't have Instagram. What else is at the top of your watch list right now?

@Frei Just out of curiosity: Do you also do technical analysis?
••
@jkb92 Haha, no, not at all—I just buy whatever feels right 😅

@Frei I sold yesterday with a 6% gain. I bought more after the dip following the earnings report and then sold in the evening. The earnings weren't that great, so I sold a little earlier than I had planned.

@Frei I got back in last night. I'm expecting a new surge soon.
••
@jkb92 Good luck. But it's not for me right now—the numbers really weren't good.

@Frei Thanks. I think a lot is factored into the price.

I'm out of this one today with a 10% gain because the stock bounced off the $50 level twice. Maybe it'll make it—in which case I'll have sold too early—but if not, there might be some good entry points again if it retests the lows.

@jkb92 I've been building up a position again over the last few days and now plan to hold it for a few months.
