MRAM memory technology for situations where failure is not an option

Hello, everyone,

Since my boyfriend @Raketentoni Mr. Prompt has been really hyper today. And @Aktienhauptmeister Jack has already done a great job today, so here’s a second company spotlight.

Here we’ll be discussing risk and opportunities.

Ever since the memory crisis and the strong performance of the relevant companies, everyone’s been talking about DRAM, but very few are mentioning MRAM.

To help you better assess the company, I’ve explained the difference below. That’s why this overview has turned out to be a bit longer.

(If you’re already familiar with the topic, feel free to scroll down or leave a comment.) @ScaleLimits

But I’m also very excited to hear your comments, my friends.

Everspin Technologies: The Pioneer of Magnetic Storage

As the global market leader in MRAM storage, Everspin occupies a critical niche that combines the speed of RAM with the non-volatile data storage of flash modules. Thanks to exclusive large-scale contracts from the U.S. Department of Defense, the company has become an indispensable pillar of national security and domestic chip production. Its expansion into edge computing and industrial AI applications is paving the way for Everspin to make the leap from a specialized niche to the global mass market.

Everspin Technologies, Inc. is a developer and manufacturer of magnetoresistive random-access memory (MRAM) solutions. Its portfolio of MRAM technologies includes toggle MRAM, tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) sensors, and spin-transfer-torque MRAM (STT-MRAM). Toggle-MRAM products are designed for applications in the industrial, medical, automotive/transportation, and data center sectors. The company offers these products with industry-standard interfaces, including parallel, Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), and Quad SPI (QSPI) interfaces. STT-MRAM technology can be adapted to provide products for DRAM, SRAM, and NOR flash applications. TMR sensors offer high magnetic sensitivity in a single component that performs 3D magnetic field measurements in a monolithic solution. The company sells its products directly and through its distribution channels to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs).

⚡ DRAM vs. MRAM – The Real Difference

🧠 DRAM (Dynamic RAM)

  • Volatile memory → Loses data as soon as power is cut off
  • Must be constantly refreshed (thousands of times per second)
  • Extremely fast (nanoseconds)
  • Very cost-effective
  • Used in PCs, servers, and smartphones as main memory
  • Scalable up to the gigabit/terabyte range
  • Disadvantage: High energy consumption, not radiation-resistant, not robust

In short: DRAM is the world’s “working memory”—fast, cheap, but not persistent.

🔒 MRAM (Magnetoresistive RAM)

  • Non-volatile → retains data without power
  • No refresh required → Extremely energy-efficient
  • Very robust (temperature, radiation, vibration)
  • Faster than flash, in some cases comparable to DRAM
  • Can be placed close to the CPU → reduces latency
  • Ideal for industry, aerospace, defense, automotive, and edge computing
  • Still more expensive and lower in density than DRAM/NAND

In short: MRAM is an ultra-fast, robust, power-independent memory—perfect for critical systems.

🚀 Why MRAM has great potential

1️⃣ Non-volatile + fast = unique

MRAM combines the best of both worlds:

  • The speed of DRAM
  • Persistence of flash

This combination is otherwise elsewhere.

2️⃣ Edge Computing & Industry 4.0

MRAM is ideal for:

  • Machine controls
  • Robots
  • Sensors
  • Automotive control units
  • Energy and network technology

→ Sectors that are growing exponentially.

3️⃣ Aerospace & Defense

MRAM is:

  • radiation-hardened
  • extremely reliable
  • temperature-stable

→ That is why MRAM is used in satellites, rockets, aircraft, and military systems.

Everspin is the only U.S. supplier.

4️⃣ UNISYST (Everspin) could replace NOR flash

NOR flash is a $3–4 billion market. UNISYST is targeting exactly that—with advantages:

  • faster
  • more robust
  • closer to the CPU
  • more energy-efficient

If UNISYST works, MRAM will more suitable for mass production and could replace NOR flash.

5️⃣ MRAM is perfect for “instant-on” systems

Example:

  • Cars
  • Industrial machinery
  • Medical devices
  • Network technology

→ Systems that need to start up immediately, without a boot time.

6️⃣ Energy efficiency is becoming a megatrend

MRAM requires no refresh → saves a massive amount of energy. In data centers, that’s a billion-dollar argument.

🎯 Investor takeaway

DRAM

  • Mass market
  • Cheap
  • Fast
  • Volatile
  • Dominant in Consumer & Server

MRAM

  • Niche Market (for now)
  • Non-volatile
  • Fast
  • Rugged
  • Ideal for industrial, aerospace, and defense applications
  • Potential to replace NOR flash
  • Potential for new memory architectures (CPU-proximal memory)

MRAM will not replace DRAM—but it will capture markets that DRAM cannot serve. And that is precisely where Everspin’s growth potential lies.

Hey there, @Tenbagger2024! 🚀

Well, what’s this I hear? That I’m *“always so mean”* to you? 😱 Man, that’s really breaking my heart here in chilly Denmark! I’m not mean, my friend—I’m just your only friend on the stock market who tells you the unvarnished truth to your face before the market turns your portfolio into breakfast! 😉

But you know what? Today, I actually have to give you a **huge compliment** for this analysis of **Everspin Technologies ($MRAM)**! The technology comparison (MRAM vs. DRAM) and operational facts you’ve compiled are incredibly well-researched.

But just so your halo doesn’t shine too brightly, I’ve compared your post against the latest InvestingPro data and the weekly chart.

Here’s your personal breakdown: What you got **spot on** (where I’m giving you props) and where you **completely overlooked the danger zone**!

---

### 1. Credit where credit is due: Where you’re absolutely RIGHT! ✅ (I’m being really nice to you!)

* **Record Q2 2026 & Outlook:**
Your figures as of August 5, 2026, are spot on! Q2 revenue of **$18.7 million (+42% YoY)** pulverized expectations. Non-GAAP EPS came in at **$0.11**—miles ahead of the expected loss of -$0.01. You also nailed the Q3 guidance (**$19.5–20.5 million**) exactly.

* **Rock-Solid Balance Sheet:**
With **$43.9 million in cash and ZERO debt**, Everspin is on solid financial footing. This provides enormous flexibility.

* **$40 Million Military Contract:**
Exactly right. The 2.5-year contract signed with the U.S. Department of Defense in April 2026 provides predictable, high-margin non-product revenue (even if revenue recognition is non-linear).

* **Technology & Partnerships:**
Your discussion of MRAM vs. DRAM hits the nail on the head. You’ve also done an excellent job summarizing key milestones such as the MaxLinear MOU, the GEO satellite win with Astro Digital, and the multi-foundry strategy (NXP, Microchip, GlobalFoundries).

* **The Patent Battle:**
The fact that you transparently mention the patent lawsuit filed by Avalanche Technology and the looming costs of **~$4 million per quarter** shows real depth.

---

### 2. The Reality Check: Where You Turned a Blind Eye! ❌ (From here on, I’ll be “mean” again)

Okay, enough of the fluff—now for the hard facts you’d rather keep from your community:

#### ❌ 1. InvestingPro’s Harsh Fair Value Reality Check

You rave about the rosy outlook through 2028/2029, but you’re ignoring the current fair value.

* The **fair value** calculated by InvestingPro based on 12 financial models is a measly €9.84 / $11.67.

* At a current price of ~€14.86 / $15.90, that means a **downside risk of -28.1% to -33.8%**! InvestingPro simply considers the stock **overvalued** at its current level.

#### ❌ 2. Huge GAAP Losses Swept Under the Rug

You’re celebrating the non-GAAP EPS of $0.11. But if you look at the real, unvarnished **GAAP figures**, the facade crumbles dramatically:

* In Q2 2026, there was a **net loss of -$3.6 million (-$0.15 per share)** on a GAAP basis!

* The LTM (last 12 months) operating income is **deep in the red at -$9.7 million**. Legal fees for the Avalanche lawsuit are eating up almost all of the operating income.

#### ❌ 3. Quality Check in the Cellar: “Weak” Rating

In the InvestingPro Quality Check, Everspin is floundering with an overall rating of just **2 out of 5 points (“Weak”)**!

* **Profitability Rating:** A disastrous **1 out of 5 points** (score 1.08).

* **Relative Value:** Also **1 out of 5 points** (score 0.60).

* **Growth:** Only **2 out of 5 points**.

#### ❌ 4. Margin Pressure on the Core Product

While the overall gross margin stood at 53.9% thanks to the government contract, the pure **product gross margin is hovering in the mid- to upper 40% range**. This is due to ongoing cost inflation in packaging and back-end assembly, as well as rising gold prices.

---

### 3. Chart Analysis & Valuation at a Glance 📊

Let’s take a look at the current setup on a weekly basis (52-week range: **€5.08 – €44.65 / $5.86 – $51.50**):

Price (EUR / USD) €22.25 / $25.67 Analyst Consensus Target (Wall Street Bulls)

€14.86 / $15.90 ─── Current Price

€9.84 / $11.67 ─── InvestingPro Fair Value (-33.8% downside risk!)

* **Volatility:** This stock is a real wild card with a 5-year beta of **1.92**. After a massive rally over the past 12 months, the chart is showing clear signs of fatigue in the short term (-8.6% to -13.5% over the last month).

* **Valuation:** With a forward P/E of ~36.4x for 2026 and a P/B of 5.38x, you’re currently paying a hefty premium for a company that’s still posting losses on an unaudited basis.

---

### 4. The Final Verdict for You 🎯

Dear @Tenbagger2024, your technical analysis gets an A+! MRAM is an incredibly exciting market of the future, Everspin is fantastically positioned, and its debt-free balance sheet is a real shield.

But: You’re buying into an extremely volatile small-cap story with **ongoing GAAP losses**, an expensive **patent battle**, and a **fair-value discount of over 30%**.

Anyone getting in here isn’t buying a proven quality stock, but rather a high-risk bet on a breakthrough starting in 2028 (UNISYST). It might pay off—but don’t complain if Raketentoni warned you, should the “fair value magnet” pull the price back down to single digits! 😉

Keep up the great work with your insights—the community benefits from them!

Best regards from Denmark

Yours, Raketentoni

I believe Renesas $6723 is also involved in MRAM, but it’s integrated into other products rather than offered as a standalone product. Tokyo Electron $8035 supplies the necessary equipment for this.

What I find most interesting in the memory sector right now, however, is SAIMEMORY, a company founded by SoftBank $9984, which is developing Z-Angle Memory as a more affordable and higher-performance alternative to High Bandwidth Memory (the current gold standard). They are supported by Intel $INTC, Fujitsu $6702, and national research institutes such as RIKEN, among others.

@Tenbagger2024 Medley $4480 and PKSHA $3993 both posted really strong earnings today. The long-term story is rock-solid, with plenty of upside and low risk. Both are even starting to pay dividends this year. I bought more of both today, especially because PKSHA plummeted by 10% today despite 80%+ revenue growth (over 50% of which was organic), massive cross-selling (flywheel model), its first dividend, share buybacks, etc., etc. The reason for this is the reduction in the EBITDA margin, which was triggered by a one-time effect (!). In addition, there was criticism that the forecast wasn’t raised, even though the annual targets have already been nearly met (80–90%). The fact that the forecast wasn’t raised doesn’t change the fact that it will likely be exceeded in the end… Well, it was a good opportunity to buy more shares. Things are also moving in the right direction at Medley, and its forecast will likely be exceeded as well. Both stocks are truly top-notch; I’m expecting 20–30x by 2035–2040 (excluding any potential additional yen effects). Thought you might be interested, since you’re always on the lookout for hidden gems :)

@Raketentoni has done a great job of analyzing this in depth👍👍, and I pretty much agree with him. While @Tenbagger2024 — in this context: Where has Juan gone? — paints a very optimistic picture of the future, the present looks a bit more sobering at the moment. Nevertheless, it’s a super exciting stock in an equally exciting sector. Thanks so much for the introduction. 😎 Anyone who loves technology and thinks long-term will see Everspin as an exciting—albeit speculative—growth story. Those who focus on valuation, profitability, and risk will see an overvalued small-cap stock with ongoing losses and legal risks. But it definitely belongs on the watchlist for the project.
