𝘚𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘻𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘴 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘪𝘯 15 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴The Swiss National Bank on Thursday unexpectedly raised its key interest rate for the first time in 15 years and said it was ready for more rate hikes, joining other central banks tightening monetary policy to fight resurgent inflation.
The central bank raised its key interest rate to minus 0.25 per cent from minus 0.75 per cent, which it has applied since 2015, sending the franc, considered a safe haven, sharply higher. Almost all economists polled by Reuters had expected the SNB to leave rates unchanged. It was the SNB's first rate hike since September 2007, after the US Federal Reserve raised borrowing costs by 0.75 percentage points on Wednesday.

According to a report in the British Times newspaper, AstraZeneca is considering a takeover bid for Mereo BioPharma, a biotech company based in London and listed in the US. Mereo already has AstraZeneca as a partner. The article, citing unnamed sources, claims that one of the partners vying for the cancer and rare disease specialist, such as Novartis, Oncxerna and Ultragenyx, could compete with the British pharma giant.

Microsoft has officially discontinued support for its Internet Explorer (IE) web browser. The search browser, released in 1995, was released as an add-on for Windows 95. It was one of the most popular search engines and from 1996 it was Javascript enabled.
Development of new features for Internet Explorer was discontinued in 2016 in favour of the new Microsoft Edge browser, which has a built-in Internet Explorer mode so users can access legacy IE-based websites and apps.

What is the Key interest rate?
For one week, banks can borrow money from the FED or the ECB at the given interest rate. The interest rate for the main refinancing operations at the ECB was 0.00 per cent. It will rise to 0.25 per cent from July. The reason for this is to stabilise the price level in the Eurozone. The immediate effects may include higher interest rates and increased costs for obtaining money. However, penalty interest for money taken into custody could also be dropped.

Did you know that the buildings on the euro banknotes are not real? However, the motifs do not really exist, but are invented so that no member state feels disadvantaged.
