Last Bitcoin purchase?

Many of you have probably already heard that in Germany, the one-year holding period for Bitcoin is set to be eliminated for holdings acquired on or after January 1, 2027.

Consequently, capital gains tax would apply to all sales made at a profit.

If this regulation is indeed implemented as outlined in the draft, there are still a good three months left to accumulate Bitcoin without having to pay taxes on it in the future.

How are you handling this? Take one last big sip from the bottle now and then hold on to it until you want to buy something nice with it? Or keep buying more, even if the new holdings will be taxed starting in 2027?

For my part, I’ve put some fiat back into the mix and topped up my position—which was already larger than planned—so I’ll have more tax-free Bitcoin in the future. From now on, the $BTC allocation in my portfolio will depend on its performance relative to other assets, and I won’t be making any more purchases unless we see significantly lower prices again before the end of the year.

If it comes to that, I'll make another substantial investment on December 31, 2026,
no matter where the price stands.
At least, that's the plan right now.
As long as I'm behind schedule, I always double my savings plan—that's my strategy.

@SathosiRuffy It's possible—who knows?
I'm not particularly optimistic about this year.

Only for BTC or all cryptocurrencies?

@ole-4063 if that's the case, then for everything

I might end up exchanging my $ETH for Bitcoin after all. Otherwise, my position has been fully invested for years.

I'm going to let the savings plans run their course. The tax office will have a field day figuring it all out—I certainly won't be going to the trouble of doing that myself when I sell, unless I'm paid to do so.
