🚀 My journey to personal development & financial freedom

Hey, I'm Tunahan, 18 years old and I live in Belgium. I'm still in school at the moment, but my passion for personal finance, personal development, financial markets and especially building a strong mindset started when I was 15 💡.

💼 Work & discipline

In addition to school, I work in a supermarket on weekdays and at Nike on weekends. In total, I work around 55 hours a week. The reason? Students in Belgium can work tax-free - and I take full advantage of that. Despite my busy schedule, I always make sure to keep time for myself.

At the moment I still live with my family, which allows me to keep my fixed costs low and invest more in my future.

🔥 Motivation & mindset

What motivates me every day: I have my goals hung up directly opposite my bed. I see them every morning - and that gives me the energy to work on myself consistently.

📚 Books & inspiration

I read a lot of books about mindset, money and personal growth. Some highlights that I would recommend to anyone:

  • The Psychology of Money - Morgan Housel
  • Rich Dad, Poor Dad - Robert Kiyosaki
  • Think and Grow Rich - Napoleon Hill
  • The Richest Man in Babylon - George S. Clason
  • Being Rich and Wealthy

These books should actually be compulsory reading for all schoolchildren. Unfortunately, the school system pays no attention to the subject.

📈 My investments & strategy

I have built up a clear asset allocation, divided into different categories:

  • Stability & Growth - Invesco FTSE All World 🌍
  • Strong growth - Nasdaq ETF 📊
  • Dividends & Security - VanEck Dividend Leaders 💵

I also have crypto in my portfolio as I believe in blockchain technology. As a young investor, I can take more risk than someone in their 40s with a family and children.

💰 Financially, it looks like this:

  • Average income: approx. 2100 € per month
  • Expenses: approx. €100 per month (as I still live at home)
  • Investments: approx. €2000 per month directly into the portfolio

In this way, I am gradually building a strong and diversified basis for my future.

🎯 My "why" & plans for the future

My biggest "why" is that I want to have financial freedom later on so that I can devote my time to the things that are really important to me. I don't want to be dependent on a boss or the school system, I want to go my own way.

My first big goals are:

  • Start my own business before my 20th birthday
  • Open a waffle store because I love entrepreneurship and see this as a great opportunity 🧇
  • Make my first real estate investment
  • Continue to expand my sustainable and strong investment portfolio

Next year I will graduate from high school and after that I want to start my own business. My goal is to build a system that works even when I'm not actively working.

🙌 Call to the community

I'm looking forward to your opinion:

In short, I believe in hard work, smart investing and lifelong learning. I look forward to sharing my journey - and learning from you too. 🚀

First of all, congratulations on your strong mindset at such a young age. As the saying goes, you can only succeed if you know your goal. What interests me is why, of all things, are you self-employed with waffles?

@Multibagger Thank you very much for the compliment 🙏.

Entrepreneurship with waffles is more than just selling a product for me - it's a way to combine my passion, creativity and perseverance. Waffles are uncomplicated and familiar to everyone, but I give them my own twist. That's what makes it special: giving people a moment of joy with something seemingly simple, but made with love and care.

I also made a conscious decision to become self-employed because I believe in freedom: determining my own path, learning from every challenge and every mistake and getting closer to my big goals step by step.

What is also particularly exciting is that there is no other waffle store in my area. So I'm bringing something new and unique to the region - a concept that no one has implemented before. Not only can I realize my entrepreneurial dream, but I can also add something really valuable to my surroundings.

And that's just the beginning. My ultimate goal is to build my waffle brand into one of the biggest and best-known brands in Belgium - a brand that stands for quality, innovation and experience and that you immediately think of as soon as you have a craving for a real waffle experience.

@Akkk Crazy but great. Here in Cologne that would probably fail. Here you get waffles every few hundred meters. In any case, I wish you the best of luck.

Mega good attitude. Especially at a young age, when you have hardly any fixed costs, the step into self-employment is particularly exciting. Your attitude to work seems to be right 🙌🏼
I can recommend the book "Antifragility" by Nassim Nicholas Taleb.

Good luck and please keep us up to date 🙏🏼

@LehrgeldInvestor Thank you very much for your encouraging words 🙏🏼, I really appreciate it.

You're absolutely right: especially at a young age, it's the perfect time to take risks and invest in myself, as the fixed costs and obligations are still manageable. Self-employment is exciting at times, but that's exactly what gives me the energy to grow and constantly strengthen my mindset and approach.

Also, thank you for the book tip Antifragility by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. It sounds like a valuable source of inspiration and knowledge that I can take a lot from, especially at this stage of my entrepreneurial journey. I'm definitely putting it on my reading list. 📚

I am continuing to build my path step by step and am happy to share my progress. Your support and feedback mean a lot to me - it gives me extra motivation to keep going. 🚀

Strong, good attitude and a clear goal. I was shocked at first because I read Waffenladen 😅 but you can make Belgian waffles 👌
All the best to you, would have been good if I had invested so well when I was still living with my parents for free!
