50 G’s, Baby! 💸

After 30 months of consistent investing, I’ve finally reached €52,000 invested at the age of 24. It hasn’t been easy, especially since Belgium doesn’t have apprenticeship programs like some other countries. Every euro I’ve invested has been earned through student jobs and freelancing in my spare time.

• 2025: €1,375/month

@DEW_7240 Neither, and the second one is actually backwards.

The €2,700/mo dominates because €52K at 8% only earns ~€4.2K/year while I’m depositing €32.4K/year. Deposits are ~8x returns at this balance. That’s normal for this stage compounding doesn’t take over until the portfolio is several times my annual contributions.

On B: the Mar 27 milestone already assumes 8%. Your €74,144 cash-only figure doesn’t cross €75K until April. So stripping out growth pushes the date later, not earlier.

And the +2.7% isn’t 30 months of returns, I sold all positions in early June, so the cost basis reset. Against the €45,400 I’ve actually contributed, €52,544 is a €7,144 gain.

2.7k per month with student jobs and freelancing at 25? Seeing you are from Belgium - the country of old money, family gifts and inheritances - I have a hard time to believe. Especially since I know first hand how time consuming studying there usually is (not a lot of time for other things like student jobs and freelancing). Lol.

@InvestingJourney I live in a student dorm and spend around €1,000 per month, including rent. I don’t own a car, and the only things I really spend on are dates and gifts. Other than that, I keep my expenses low.

I track every euro I spend and optimize one metric: my savings rate. It’s improved steadily over the years:

• 2024: ~33%
• 2025: ~61%
• 2026: ~83%

It wasn’t always this way. In 2024, I hit rock bottom after losing almost all of my money on a deal that went sideways. I was left with just €250 to my name.

To earn money, I started with odd jobs: garbage collection, factory night shifts, delivery driving, moving, bartending, and retail. Most of those paid around €12–15 per hour.

In 2025, I landed a freelance contract with an SMB, where I help improve productivity, traceability, and overall profitability. Today, that work pays around €60 per billed hour.

I’m still a full-time student, so I work before and after classes, on weekends, during holidays, and throughout the summer and winter breaks. I put in a lot of hours, and every six months I renegotiate my rate to reflect the value I deliver.

Great achievement! But: it seems you made very marginal return only, is that right? Looks as if c. EUR 51k of the c. EUR 52.5k were "invested". This would be tough considering you are investing since 30 months...

@M_Dx the €51K isn’t my actual contributed capital. Earlier this year, in June, I sold most of my portfolio and reinvested the proceeds into $SPPW.

My actual invested capital is around €45K, which means the portfolio is up by roughly €7K.

That works out to an approximate return of 15.6% (€7K gain on €45K invested) over the past 30 months.
