Hello GQ Community
I am currently on vacation in Vietnam.🇻🇳
As an interested investor, I am of course keeping an eye on which companies are active here.
Gladly your observation or remark in the comments 😁
This is particularly interesting in Vietnam in my opinion. (Politics, history, geographical location).
Political: Socialist republic with a one-party state (Communist Party of Vietnam)
Population just under 100 million
GDP per capita 4500$ (estimate for 2023)
Now to my observations so far.
In general, the Vietnamese are very busy and friendly people. Everyone has something to offer and always a friendly face. there is no begging even in the megacities like hanoi or HCMC. instead, people sell food, souvenirs or other things from their mopeds.
It feels like the construction sector is booming, especially in the big cities and tourist regions. Hotels are being built from the ground up. Office towers and new residential complexes are under construction. The VinHomes from $VIC (the largest conglomerate in Vietnam). We have seen at least 5 large residential projects under construction by VinHomes. (We are talking about thousands of apartments in one project)
However, the machines in the construction industry largely come from China/Japan/Korea. only logical. my favorites from $CAT (-3,04 %) are unfortunately missing here.
Automotive: As with construction machinery, cars also come from the countries mentioned. toyota and hyundai are strong. worth mentioning is VinFast. a Vietnamese brand. Founded in 2017, it produces really chic cars. The owner is $VIC
But the streets are dominated by over 90 million scooters. $MBG (+0,33 %) or $VOW (+0,69 %) or $BMW (+0,46 %) are rarely seen.
Consumer goods: in one of the few supermarkets we have visited so far, I looked at various products that you need every day: Toothpaste, shower gel, detergent - I touched 3 products. all were (coincidentally) from $ULVR (-0,71 %). The toothpaste from $COLG I deliberately did not take it.
The 3 best-selling water brands are lavie ($NESN (-0,7 %) ), Dasani ($KO (+1,67 %) ) and Aquafina ($PEP (+0,29 %) ).
In addition, we have $MDLZ (+0,94 %) , $HEIO (+0,85 %) seen.
Telecommunications are covered by Viettel and Mobiphone and vinaphone. mobile phone masts everywhere. good coverage even in rural areas.
Internet in general extremely good. we had very good WIFI in every hotel so far. various speed tests showed more than 100MBit down/up
We also looked at the prices of $AAPL (-0,42 %) products. e.g. iPhone 14pro costs about 1150€. not much difference to europe. although the purchasing power is much lower. that's why monthly leases are offered here first in the electronics market.
very occasionally you find "media mart", looks like it also belongs to $CEC (-3,46 %) belong to.
In the hotel sector, 2 things stand out. the large international hotel groups such as $MAR (+0,55 %) or $HLT (+1,18 %) and $AC (+1,06 %) are represented at the important locations. $VIC is also involved here.
$MCD (+1,12 %) and $SBUX (+0,58 %) there are also like everywhere else.
Do any of you have any exciting insights into Vietnam?
