Volkswagen ($VOWB) - Germany's largest automaker plans to strip its largest suppliers Bosch, ZF and Conti of their power. For several years, German automakers have no longer spearheaded automotive software. Companies like Tesla ($TL0 (+3,13 %)) have taken the lead here. The reason given for the German automotive companies' lagging role is their dependence on their suppliers. These were responsible for any innovations in the software sector, and companies like VW merely implemented the new technology. This process is now set to change. The managing director of the VW software subsidiary Cariad announced in an interview with the Handelsblatt that in the future VW will declare the development of new techniques. Suppliers who refuse to comply with these demands are to be parted with as quickly as possible as a result.
