The EU is planning to introduce import duties on cheap goods from online platforms such as $PDD (-3.83%) ,

Temu, AliExpress and Shein to stem the flow of low-quality items from China.

The proposal envisages the abolition of the current duty-free limit of €150. Last year, 2.3 billion such items were imported into the EU.

This step could affect all e-commerce platforms outside the EU.

I welcome the fact that this garbage is not imported.

@Khlmysee I have to say that Shein makes really nice clothes, my wife has already ordered a few things there and let's be honest, other companies also produce in Asia and deliver the goods to Europe. In principle, almost every clothing manufacturer.

@BamBamInvest take a look at the conditions under which this stuff is made - child labor. Other well-known companies don't use children to make their clothes. Anyone who orders clothes from them should be ashamed of themselves. The same goes for Primark and similar filth.

@Khlmysee I can't contradict that because I can't refute it. I just know that many companies produce in Asia and I am sure that you have already bought one or two products from Asia that were manufactured under the same conditions. Just because it has a different name on it doesn't make it any better.

@Khlmysee It is naive to believe that the working conditions for branded clothing are good. Just do some research

@BamBamInvest @GHFthat is simply not true. Many well-known companies now pay attention to their supply chains. Of course, the conditions are not always ideal, but you can exclude child labor.... Not with the scrap from Shein.

I think you just feel better when you save money. No matter the price or the cost. That's typically German - wanting quality, but preferably paying nothing.

@Khlmysee I'm sure you check every product you buy for its origin 👍 . And actually I never said that I buy products there myself, you don't know me, so please refrain from making any claims, insinuations or insults. Thank you 🙏

@BamBamInvestIf you already see this as an insult, then I don't seem to be too wrong.

I'm glad that something is being done about this filth. Unfortunately, there are enough people who buy it.

@Khlmysee What I would add: you can at least try to only buy from companies that operate under halfway reasonable conditions.
For example: if I buy a pair of trousers for €100, it is possible that they can be produced in an acceptable way. At €10 for a pair of jeans, it is simply impossible. In case 1, you can certainly criticize the manufacturer for extremely increasing his profit margin through exploitation. With the €10 pants, I know for sure that there are no well-paid seamstresses working there.

@Khlmysee that's simply not true either! But again, I have never bought a product from Shein myself, but I am happy to pass it on to my wife and please refrain from making claims to me that are simply not true.

It would be cool if sites like $EBAY, $AMZN USD. had a function to hide goods from China directly

@AlterMann So everything? xD What you probably mean are marketplace products, i.e. products that are not in the direct range. At Amazon, Otto, Mediamarkt you can filter out marketplace everywhere (more or less easily)

Sometimes better quality than some of the garbage here. 😂

Funny how EU is in forefront in WTO to remove tarrifs in African and Asian countries for agricultural produce so that they can trade easily but protects their inefficient industries from China .

A friend of mine accepts mail from Temu etc. in his store and distributes it to the recipients (kind of like a packing station). The stuff is often not even picked up. What happens to it? He can keep it (I think he gets a waste fee).

Most of the stuff - although new - is only good for the trash. It's not even worth ripping open the packages to see if anything can be turned into money. It's just the cheapest garbage that nobody needs.

The SAME products often cost more than 300% on Amazon ... so too bad

@Mike_Invest yes, I've noticed that too

The fact that people with an education actually buy on those platforms is the worst.
Same with TikTok.
