My personal getquin profile!

Who are you?

Hey, I'm Ben, 23 years old and have been active in the stock market for over 5 years now. Since last year I share my knowledge about financial topics on my TikTok channel "InvestierenmitBen" and try to contribute to the stock culture in Germany.

But let's start from the beginning.

In 2015, I decided to start a dual study program at a bank. It became clear relatively quickly where the focus would be, both in practice and at university - in the securities business. Over the course of three years, I was able to learn a lot about the capital markets and investing in the lectures, while in practice I supported my colleagues in private banking and in the securities department in structuring customers' securities portfolios or, for example, helping to set up my own trading system.

Three years later, I didn't really know where to go from there, so I decided to spend half a year exploring Southeast Asia. The picture here shows me on my way back to Germany in Sri Lanka.

Back in Germany, I started my master's degree with a focus on finance in Regensburg at the beginning of 2018. There I also got closer to the stock markets again and wrote my master's thesis on sustainable investment.

At the same time, I came up with the idea for my TikTok channel, which is now followed by over 45,000 people. I would like to step on the gas even more in the future and promote financial education in Germany on various social media channels.

When did you start investing?

I started investing in 2015 when I started my dual studies. At that time, a few individual stocks quickly joined the rather boring funds.

The first of these shares in my portfolio was Wirecard. I tried out a lot on the stock market back then. In my opinion, that's also the most important thing for beginners: just get started and then learn as you go. In the beginning, perhaps it's better to start with a little less money to keep the risk lower.

What is your investment strategy?

My strategy can be classically described as a core-satellite strategy. In the target here the classic MSCI World and MSCI Emerging Markets combination makes up 50-70% of the portfolio.

The rest consists of individual stocks, P2P loans, cryptocurrencies, gold and some cash.

What is your secret tip or a sector/stock that you currently like?

I don't think there are any secret tips on the stock market. The markets are too efficient for that. But if I had to make a decision, I would probably look among the classic value stocks at the moment.

Growth stocks have been doing great for years and I have the feeling that value investing hardly plays a role, especially among young investors, which could change again in the future.

But if you want to be on the safe side, you just buy boring, globally diversified ETFs, like I do in my core portfolio. It's simple, promises a decent return, and relatively little can go wrong in the long run.

What was your biggest investment blunder?

I have probably made the highest losses with knock-out certificates. Whoever uses such products should perhaps rather visit the casino or invest only money that is really intended for "playing". In the meantime, I tend to stay away from such products.

Otherwise, the biggest mistake you can make in my opinion is not to follow through with your strategy, but to let yourself be guided by emotions such as greed or fear. Especially in the beginning, I actually only made my broker rich by constantly buying and selling.

What does your portfolio currently look like?

My private long-term portfolio currently looks something like this:

  • MSCI World: ~35 %
  • MSCI Emerging Markets: ~15
  • Individual stocks: ~46 %
  • Gold: ~4 %

Cryptocurrencies and P2P loans are excluded here, as I am always cashed out on cryptos in rising prices and P2P loans play a very subordinate role since the Corona crisis. ;)

Currently I am dealing with the topic of sustainable investment. Here is my sample portfolio:
