GFT Technologies and Itaú Unibanco Accelerate Cloud Migration by Up to 70 Percent Using AI

$GFT (+2,11 %)

We remain invested in GFT, both in Portfolio 2036 and in the project.

A great pick from the second wave. Here, AI is becoming the new driver.

GFT Technologies and Itaú Unibanco accelerate cloud migration by up to 70 percent with AI

The jointly developed Batch2Cloud solution uses AI agents to significantly accelerate the modernization of business-critical banking systems. Integrated into Wynxx, the solution combines AI-powered automation with human expertise and clear governance.

Stuttgart, October 29, 2026 – GFT Technologies and Itaú Unibanco, one of Latin America’s largest banks, have jointly developed an AI-based solution that significantly accelerates the migration of business-critical banking systems to the cloud. In the first phase of implementation, the migration time was reduced by up to 70 percent. The Batch2Cloud solution uses AI agents to analyze existing systems, identify opportunities for modernization, and support the transformation to modern cloud architectures.

The project is part of Itaú Unibanco’s modernization and cloud migration program, which was launched in 2018. The focus is on so-called batch systems, which process large transaction volumes at fixed times and are indispensable for daily closings, payment processing, and reconciliations, among other things. Many of these processes have traditionally run on mainframes and are based on applications that have evolved over decades. Modernizing them is technically challenging, as existing business rules must be preserved and the continuity of banking operations must be ensured.

AI Accelerates the Modernization of Complex Banking Systems

With Batch2Cloud, GFT Technologies and Itaú Unibanco have developed a solution that supports key steps in system modernization through the use of artificial intelligence. Batch2Cloud analyzes existing IT landscapes, identifies opportunities for modernization, and helps estimate the effort required for migration to the cloud.

The solution has been integrated into Wynxx, GFT Technologies’ generative AI platform for software development and modernization. This directly integrates AI into complex transformation processes and supports the planning and implementation of the migration.

AI agents play a central role by handling repetitive tasks, analyzing existing code, and supporting its generation and validation. Responsibility for technical decisions, IT architecture, and governance remains with the expert teams at Itaú Unibanco and GFT Technologies.

This approach combines the speed of AI-powered automation with the experience of expert teams who understand the existing systems and their business rules.

The results of the first implementation phase demonstrate the potential: through the combined use of AI agents, Batch2Cloud, and human expertise, the duration of the system migration was reduced by up to 70 percent. At the same time, project implementation was accelerated by up to 3.3 times.

Leveraging Existing Expertise, Accelerating Innovation

In developing the solution, GFT Technologies and Itaú Unibanco built upon existing technologies and the experience of the bank’s innovation teams. This includes “Code Understanding,” a solution developed by Zup Innovation, a technology company within the Itaú Group. It supports the understanding of existing legacy applications and complements the AI agents deployed.

Through close collaboration among the teams involved, existing solutions were integrated in a targeted manner, development processes were optimized, and implementation was accelerated.

“Modernizing business-critical systems is one of the biggest challenges for companies seeking to turn their AI ambitions into real business value. What we’ve achieved together with Itaú demonstrates how AI can become an integral part of software engineering. In doing so, we combine automation with sound human expertise to accelerate complex transformations while ensuring the governance, quality, and reliability that financial institutions require,” said Marco Santos, Global CEO of GFT Technologies.

“The modernization of our legacy systems and migration to the cloud are two pillars of Itaú’s technology strategy. This allows us to consistently put our customers at the center and provide them with what they need, at the right time and at the expected speed. Integrating AI agents into this process, guided by our principles for the responsible use of AI, enables us to drive modernization forward without compromising the stability of the systems on which our business relies,” said Douglas Santos, Technology Superintendent at Itaú Unibanco.

AI-Driven Modernization as the Foundation for Further Transformations

The experiences gained from the joint project highlight the potential of AI-driven modernization for the financial sector. Particularly in complex IT landscapes that have evolved over decades, the targeted use of AI agents can help accelerate migration processes and reduce manual effort.

With Wynxx and integrated solutions such as Batch2Cloud, GFT Technologies aims to systematically integrate artificial intelligence into software development and the modernization of existing applications. The project with Itaú Unibanco demonstrates how this approach can be implemented in a business-critical banking environment and what measurable results are possible.
