IQM to Deliver Its First Quantum Computer in South America to Brazil’s Eldorado Research Institute.
The IQM Spark quantum computer will be installed in the first quarter of 2027 at Eldorado’s headquarters in Campinas, approximately 100 km northwest of São Paulo, providing researchers, engineers, universities, and industry partners with direct access to quantum computers.
The agreement also includes remote access to IQM’s 54-qubit cloud-based system in Europe, allowing Brazilian teams to develop applications on their own hardware and scale up to larger quantum workloads as needed.
“Brazil has the talent, the research base, and the ambition to build a true quantum ecosystem. What was missing until now was direct access to real quantum computers.
The fact that Eldorado owns this system means that Brazilian researchers, engineers, and industry partners can begin building real capabilities today, rather than having to spend years catching up,” said Jan Goetz, CEO and co-founder of IQM Quantum Computers. “This is our first step into South America, and we’re taking the same approach as we do everywhere else: partnering with a company that wants to grow with its own infrastructure and help shape how it’s used.”
“Quantum computing has the potential to fundamentally change the way we tackle some of the most complex technological and industrial challenges. By bringing this infrastructure to Eldorado while gaining access to more advanced quantum computing capabilities, we are investing not only in technology but also in people, knowledge, and an ecosystem that will prepare Brazil to actively participate in the quantum future,” said José Bertuzzo, head of the Eldorado Research Institute.
Eldorado’s headquarters in Campinas is located next to the Unicamp campus in Brazil’s largest technology cluster, giving the company direct access to a network of universities, startups, and industry partners across various sectors, including the automotive industry, energy, oil and gas, fintech, agribusiness, and healthcare.
The quantum computer will enable Eldorado and its partners to research quantum algorithms, build expertise in quantum hardware and software, and explore hybrid architectures that combine high-performance computing, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence. The implementation is part of Eldorado’s strategy to expand its activities in the field of cutting-edge technologies and develop capabilities for the next generation of computing.
The agreement follows a period of expansion for IQM.
In August, the company reported an order backlog of 102 million euros, 26 full-stack systems sold, and 17 delivered worldwide, including its first system in the United States.
- Eldorado will host an IQM Spark at its headquarters in Campinas and will also have access to IQM’s 54-qubit cloud-based system, combining local hardware with greater capacities via the cloud.
- This will enable innovation and growth to keep pace with the advancement of their quantum knowledge.
- This marks the first purchase of a quantum computer by a private research institute in Brazil. It will enable researchers, engineers, universities, and industry partners to advance research and build local capabilities.
- IQM and Eldorado aim to accelerate the adoption of quantum technology in Brazil and South America by building local expertise and opening up the system to Eldorado’s network of universities, startups, and industry partners.
