Newsflash⚡: Fluence Energy $FLNC (-2,14 %) (a joint venture between Siemens $SIE (-1,22 %) and AES Corporation $AES) (-3,37 %) is providing the battery storage technology (Gridstack Pro™) for the Pioneer Clean Energy Center in Yuma County, Arizona. The project is being developed by BrightNight in partnership with Cordelio Power and combines a 300 MW solar array with a powerful 300 MW/1,200 MWh battery storage system.
The storage system is designed to provide four hours of reliable, on-demand energy to meet Arizona's rapidly growing electricity demand. The aim is to significantly increase grid stability, cushion peak loads and make solar power available even at times of high demand. The project is part of a long-term power supply agreement (PPA).
Battery cells, modules, housings and thermal management systems manufactured predominantly in the USA will be used, which should strengthen the domestic industry and energy security. Construction work has already begun and commercial commissioning is planned for April 2027.
At 1,200 MWh, the project is one of the larger battery storage facilities in the USA and demonstrates how large-scale solar energy in combination with battery storage can increasingly replace conventional power plant capacity.
