Until now, BYD $1211 (-0,87 %) had previously only confirmed the use of its megawatt charging technology for China, but it is now clear that the so-called "megawatt flash chargers" will also be introduced in Europe. Although Li did not provide any details on the number of megawatt chargers planned for Europe during the meeting with media representatives in Brussels, he did give details on the timetable: The network is to be set up within the next twelve months.
Li is also quoted as saying: "This will be a ground-breaking innovation that will boost consumer confidence in electric driving." BYD therefore wants to install its own charging stations at dealerships and Li states that he is already in exploratory talks with local partners.
In China, BYD has just announced new partnerships to expand its network of megawatt charging stations beyond the 4,000 units planned to date by a further 15,000. Firstly, the manufacturer wants to work with Xiaoju Charging to build 10,000 units. At the same time, BYD is cooperating with LongShine to build a further 5,000 MW chargers.
Xiaoju Charging is the charging infrastructure operator of the Chinese ride-hailing group Didi, while LongShine is a domestic energy technology company that is said to have access to over 90 percent of public charging stations in China via its aggregated charging service platform Xindiantu.
