We’re expecting our first child early next year, and we’ve already put together a financial plan for the period after maternity leave. I had to take a deep breath when I saw that, too :D
We’ll definitely have to lower our monthly savings rate for now. It’s still over €1,000—which is certainly higher than for many other families—but the reduction still stings.
Neither of us is a high earner, but according to common statistics, our income places us in the upper middle class. I really wonder how families with lower incomes and even more children manage. Of course, it also has to do with the standard of living you want to maintain. But I definitely have a better understanding now of why so many people have to watch every penny.
