Petrobras $PETR3 (-1,32 %)
$PETR4 (-2,33 %) is exploring potential opportunities in Argentina while moving forward with projects in Colombia and Africa, the company's head of exploration and production, Sylvia dos Anjos, said on Tuesday.
Gas from the Vaca Muerta region is of interest to Petrobras as it could be transported via a pipeline linking Argentina, Bolivia and Brazil, Anjos said on the sidelines of the CERAWeek conference in Houston.
She added that the company could also look for oil deposits in Argentina, as Petrobras is actively seeking to replenish its oil reserves through projects abroad, given the difficulty of obtaining environmental licenses to drill in Brazil.
In Colombia, the company is currently working on the development plan for an offshore project where 6 trillion cubic feet of gas have been discovered and is awaiting a government license.
About 13 million cubic meters of gas per day from the project would be delivered to Colombia via a pipeline, Anjos said.
In Africa, the company expects to drill exploratory wells between July and August in an oil block in which it has an interest in Sao Tome and Principe. Another area in South Africa will be drilled in the second half of the year, the managing director added.
