Chip crisis at Volkswagen

$IFX (-0,02 %)

Hello dear community

What is your assessment of the chip crisis at $VOW (+1,98 %) ? Could the dependence on China $IFX (-0,02 %) e.g. benefit from orders from VW and other German car manufacturers in the future, or is this rather unrealistic?

What do you think?

Have a nice weekend 🗡️💥

The chips were probably procured somewhere yesterday, and VW is now even supposed to be working extra shifts (as of yesterday) in order to cope with the rush of orders for e-models.
Incidentally, our last Economics Minister wanted to set up a semiconductor production site in eastern Germany with Infineon (and even with state aid).
Well, Porsche is now building 100% combustion engines again.

@Eurosammler
Perhaps it would also be a business model for VW to build a semiconductor company itself. And not always rely on suppliers and politics.
It would also be a game changer, which would certainly be good for the share price

@Tenbagger2024 Good idea, VW can then use the production halls for Porsche's semiconductor production as a production facility when they go bankrupt next year :-).
Semiconductor chips made by Porsche, each chip lovingly packaged in a velvet box with the Porsche logo on it. That will be the game changer!

@Tenbagger2024 There are reasons why no car manufacturer produces the chips themselves. There is a lack of know-how and the entire assembly costs billions.

I just wonder how the Chinese manage to do this. Perhaps with more optimism

@Tenbagger2024 Optimism, cheaper energy, lower labor costs, generally a different attitude,... 😉

Rather unlikely in my opinion.

Incidentally, our last Economics Minister wanted to set up a battery plant in Germany with Northvolt (and even with state aid) in north-west Germany.
Well, money gone and minister Weg🤷🏼‍♂️

@Gruuber wanted to, could or would have. Were the years not enough? How many years would have been necessary?

Not all semiconductors are the same, there are enormous differences. Size, structure, production, etc. I don't think Infineon is the right partner here. If China closes down, then I suspect that On Semiconductor or Texas Instruments will be consulted.

@Wollitz
$STMPA also does a lot for the automotive industry
