Steyr Motors already has a high order backlog $4X0 (+0,2 %) currently has a high order backlog of almost 200 million euros until 2027. The framework agreements (including Rheinmetall) also offer considerable medium to long-term potential for additional orders over and above the minimum amounts agreed in the order backlog.
According to the engine specialist, further contracts are about to be signed, which would increase Steyr Motors' order backlog for the period after 2027 by an additional 150 million euros. And the Management Board remains optimistic and assumes that this volume could increase significantly due to the long-term framework agreements in the defense sector.
What does all this have to do with the investment company Mutares $MUX (+6,22 %) to do? Mutares still holds 70.9 percent of Steyr Motors. With a current market capitalization of Steyr Motors of EUR 442.0 million, this results in an investment value for Mutares of currently EUR 313.4 million. Mutares itself is currently valued at EUR 789.9 million on the stock exchange.
In view of Steyr Motors' fabulous share price performance in recent days, the question arises as to whether it would not make more sense for investors who want to profit from the defense boom at Steyr Motors to invest in Mutares? After all, Mutares holds numerous other investments with the prospect of lucrative exits.
Despite the undoubtedly attractive prospects (see order backlog) at Steyr Motors, a good EUR 440 million in market capitalization is quite something. And of course the Mutares share has also risen as a result, but nowhere near as much as Steyr Motors. Mutares shares have only recently returned to the level seen before the short attack by hedge fund Gotham City at the end of September 2024 and have now significantly exceeded it.
