Shares in chip manufacturer Intel soared by as much as five percent. Stock market participants spoke of vague takeover speculation./la/jha/

$INTC (-1,13 %)

The US chip manufacturer Intel wants to spin off its investment business Intel Capital. The US company also wants to divest its camera business.

As an independent company, Intel Capital will also raise money from external investors in future. Until now, Intel has financed the subsidiary alone. The name of the venture capitalist is also to be changed. Intel intends to complete the spin-off in the second half of 2025 and plans to remain a so-called anchor investor - i.e. an important shareholder without a majority stake.

Camera business will also be spun off

The Group founded Intel Capital in 1991, at that time still under the name Corporate Business Development. According to Intel, the division has invested more than 20 billion US dollars in more than 1,800 companies since it was founded. Intel Capital currently manages assets of 5 billion dollars.

5 minutes ago I asked what the reason could be, maybe here is the answer. But these are negative things, aren't they?

@Semos25
Takeover rumors are usually good for the share price of the company to be taken over. This is because the interested party is usually prepared to pay a higher price to the shareholders. However, if the takeover does not materialize, for example for antitrust reasons, the share price can quickly crash again.

@Tenbagger2024 A few months ago there was a rumor that Qualcomm wanted to take over Intel. Maybe something is going on in the background.

That may well be the case, perhaps the spin-off is already a measure in favor of this. Qualcomm is slightly up

@Semos25
We small investors only find out at the end

@Tenbagger2024 That's why I invested in Intel, so that someone would finally take over the company. Let's see what the future holds.

@Tenbagger2024 thank you and you're right about the investors being the last to know. We only find out when it's all too late 😅

I rate the chances of a takeover as very low. Intel is part of the US government's critical infrastructure.
