Tesla sales figures in Europe shrink significantly
The sales figures of the e-car manufacturer Tesla $TSLA (-1,02Â %) in Europe show a dramatic decline. In the first two months of 2025, new registrations fell by almost 50 percent. According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association Acea, only 19,046 vehicles were registered, which corresponds to a market share of 1.1 percent. In Germany, the decline is particularly extreme: in February, new registrations fell by a shocking 76 percent, while the entire market for e-cars flourished in the same period. Tesla, whose factory is located in GrĂĽnheide, is also struggling with serious damage to its image, which has been exacerbated by CEO Elon Musk's controversial role in US politics. Companies such as Rossmann are also rethinking their business relationships with Tesla. While the sales figures for battery electric vehicles rose by 28.4 percent in February, Tesla is lagging behind this positive trend. Hybrid vehicles dominate the market with 35.2 percent, followed by gasoline and diesel vehicles.
Trump tariffs: impact on German car manufacturers
In the USA, President Donald Trump announced new import tariffs on foreign car imports on Wednesday, which will come into force on April 2. These tariffs are estimated at 25 percent and will affect all imported vehicles and, from next month, all individual parts supplied. German car manufacturers such as Volkswagen, Porsche and BMW, which rely heavily on exports, will be particularly hard hit. These tariffs could significantly impair the competitiveness of these manufacturers in the USA. In addition, German companies are already struggling with the challenges of the global transition to electromobility. Although the impact of these tariffs on market prices and sales figures remains to be seen, it is clear that German car manufacturers must prepare for a new, difficult phase. The traditional automotive industry in Germany must now react more strongly to international trade conditions.
