Customs dispute continues to cause unrest

  • In response to the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on imports from China at the weekend, the People's Republic has responded with counter-tariffs.
  • According to the Ministry of Finance in Beijing, additional tariffs of 15 percent are to be imposed on coal and liquefied natural gas from the USA.
  • An additional tariff of ten percent is to apply to oil and agricultural machinery.
  • In contrast to Mexico and Canada, which reached an agreement with US President Donald Trump shortly before the tariffs came into force to suspend their introduction for 30 days, there was initially no such agreement with China.



Infineon $IFX (-1,86 %)raises sales forecast thanks to the weak euro

  • Chip manufacturer Infineon performed slightly better than expected in the first quarter and has raised its sales forecast for the current financial year due to the weak euro.
  • The management around CEO Jochen Hanebeck now expects stable to slightly increasing revenues for 2024/25, as the company announced in Neubiberg on Tuesday.
  • Previously, Infineon had assumed that revenue would fall slightly.
  • The outlook for the Segment Result margin was confirmed.
  • In the first business quarter (end of December), sales fell by 13 percent compared to the previous quarter to 3.4 billion euros in a weak market environment.
  • The segment result, which measures operating performance, fell from 832 million to 573 million euros.
  • This includes a compensation payment from a customer in the mid double-digit million euro range.
  • The corresponding margin deteriorated from 21.2 percent to 16.7 percent.
  • Analysts had expected larger declines.
  • For the second quarter, Infineon expects sales to rise again to 3.6 billion euros and a Segment Result margin in the mid-teens percent range.
  • "Following the expected inventory correction, we continue to expect a gradual recovery in demand for the current financial year," explained CEO Hanebeck.

  • Profitability in the upper half of the forecast range and free cash flow well above EUR 10 million
  • Increase in Group sales in FY 2024 (preliminary) by approx. 33% to around EUR 480 million (EUR +119 million compared to the previous year), driven by double-digit growth in all markets
  • North America becomes the largest market for tonies in the fourth full year after market launch with sales of EUR 210 million (+50% year-on-year)
  • Sales in the highly profitable DACH region increase by approx. 11% to around EUR 184 million thanks to continued strong demand, especially in Q4 (21% YoY)
  • Adjusted EBITDA margin expected to increase by at least three percentage points year-on-year and be in the upper half of the forecast range
  • Free cash flow will be positive for the first time and clearly exceed EUR 10m
