1. Mercedes' new luxury strategy
The carmaker $MBG (-3,33 %) is realigning its portfolio, aiming for a 60% increase in ultra-luxurious cars. China has introduced a new vehicle class. From 2024, the entry-level class, which includes the A-Class, GLB and CLA, will be reduced from seven to four body types. According to the company, the B-Class, for example, will be taken out of the range. The A-Class in its current form will also be phased out soon.

2. The euro approaches parity with the dollar
The euro is nearing parity with the US dollar for the first time in 20 years, but currency experts are divided over whether it will reach it and what that would mean for investors and the economy.
The euro was holding at around $1.05 in Europe on Thursday morning, after falling steadily for almost a year to around $1.22 in June last year. Earlier this week, the single currency fell to just under $1.03. Risk aversion in the markets has boosted the dollar as investors seek conventional "safe havens" amid concerns about Russia's war in Ukraine, rising inflation, supply chain problems, a slowing economy and monetary tightening.

3. Ford recalls 39,000 SUVs
Ford $F (+0,87 %) has issued a recall on 39,000 SUVs in the United States following reports of 16 engine fires. Reports have stated that the engine of some 2021 model year Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles could explode while parked or being driven. There has been one injury, no accidents, and 14 of the 16 engines were owned by rental companies.
