Europe🌍:

1. Moderna surprises with sales increase for Corona vaccine

Sales of U.S. vaccine maker Moderna's Covid 19 vaccine Spikevax rose in the second quarter compared with the same period last year, despite a decline in vaccination rates worldwide. The company said sales rose 8% to $4.5 billion, or 4.4 billion euros.

That was significantly more than Bloomberg-listed analysts had expected. Those had expected sales to decline from a year earlier. Moderna shares rose 4% in premarket trading Wednesday.

2. Molson Coors falls as company leads split in consumer spending on beer

Molson Coors Beverage is seeing a split among its customers as inflation hits their wallets, with some beer drinkers reducing their consumption while others continue to pay for more expensive six-packs.

Shares of the beverage maker closed down more than 10% Tuesday as concerns about the uncertain macroeconomic environment weighed on the stock. The company reported second-quarter earnings and revenue that were roughly in line with Wall Street estimates.

CEO Gavin Hattersley told CNBC that the beer industry experienced a slowdown in sales in the second quarter, which the company blamed for a 1.7% decline in U.S. sales volume.

Quarterly figures:

☕️ Starbucks $SBUX (+1,42 %)

Starbucks reported better-than-expected quarterly profit and revenue Tuesday, fueled by demand for cold brew coffee drinks in the U.S.

While inflation is rising, interim CEO Howard Schultz said the chain's customers aren't cutting back or reducing spending. Other restaurant companies, including McDonald's and Chipotle Mexican Grill, have seen low-income consumers visit less often or spend less as higher gas and grocery bills hit their budgets. Schultz attributed Starbucks' ability to buck the trend to pricing power and customer loyalty.
