1. ECB raises key interest rate.

The European Central Bank raised its key interest rate by 50 basis points, the first increase in 11 years and the largest since 2000, as it faces rising inflation while recession risks increase. With renewed political turmoil in Italy, President Christine Lagarde and her colleagues also unveiled a tool to ensure markets don't push up borrowing costs in vulnerable economies too aggressively, as they did in 2012 when the existence of the euro was called into question.

2. Ford cuts 8,000 jobs.

Ford Motor Co is preparing to cut as many as 8,000 jobs in the coming weeks to reduce costs and increase its focus on electric vehicles. The cuts will be made to Ford employees as well as to Ford Blue, the unit created in March to handle the company's internal combustion engines, Bloomberg reported. The cuts, the details of which have not yet been finalized and are subject to change, will occur in phases and likely begin in the summer.

3. Amazon Buys One Medical.

Amazon announced that it will buy One Medical for $3.49 billion. The move adds inpatient physician practices to the e-commerce giant's arsenal and pushes it deeper into healthcare.

The deal, which will be all-cash, heralds a dramatic expansion of Amazon's healthcare ambitions. The company launched a pilot of virtual care visits for Amazon employees in Seattle in 2019, before offering such services to other employers and in other cities under the Amazon Care brand.
