Why do people buy these Japanese retail conglomerates? Question for a friend.

•@Soprano these are the big players in Japan, broadly diversified and very conservatively managed (stability) and they are also systemically relevant in Japan (too big to fail)

•@TaxesAreTheft So simply to cover Japan in your portfolio with defensive stocks? Such conglomerates are usually not very exciting. They are also not active in any future market. The Japanese economy has neither a tailwind nor the typical business areas of the old economy (metallurgy, retail, mechanical engineering, insurance, textiles)

•@Soprano In itself, yes, but I find Mitsui quite exciting, simply because they are so versatile. But not everything has to be a rollercoaster ride.
