Many Germans are probably familiar with Xiaomi for their smartphones and home electronics. But the Chinese company also builds electric cars. It probably wants to develop these in Germany in the future.
Following the sales success of its first own electric car in China, Xiaomi is planning to make the leap abroad, according to a newspaper report. The vehicles should also be sold outside the People's Republic from 2027, wrote the Japanese business newspaper "Nikkei" on Wednesday. The world's third-largest manufacturer of smartphones and provider of household electronics is also planning to set up a development center for electric cars in Germany. The company confirmed the plans for a development center, but did not provide any details.
As the news portal Techinasia reports, the development center is to be located in Munich. From there, Xiaomi plans to launch a sports version of its successful SU7 model on the European market. According to the report, tests are to take place on the Nürburgring. Techinasia also reports that sales of the models are to be coordinated from Düsseldorf.
