Mercedes-Benz: Crisis in the premium segment - What's behind it?

The Mercedes-Benz Group ($MBG (-1,31 %)) is under pressure! 😬 The fat years seem to be over as the car manufacturer struggles with a slump in profits and a noticeable decline in sales. The business figures for 2024 will be published on Thursday - the tension is rising!

A big reason for the misery? China. Sales there have fallen by a whopping seven percent, especially in the premium segment. Analyst Frank Biller from LBBW notes: "The growth engine China has lost a lot of momentum." High-priced models such as the S-Class and Mercedes-Maybach were particularly disappointing with a decline of 14 percent.

The real estate crisis in China has mainly affected wealthy buyers. The market is also highly competitive due to local brands. What do you think? Can Mercedes hold its own in this highly competitive market? Or is it time for a change of strategy? 📉💭

@Buffalo at some point for sure, but it could take years...
@Buffalo I see it the same way, as long as always buy more when at about 55€ ...divi comforts ...same with VW and BMW

@Coyote980 I would rather wait until 40-45....
@Pezi that would of course be wonderful 😌...but will it happen?

@Coyote980 I don't think that's unrealistic

In the Chinese market, to which the entire German car industry has chained itself, their combustion engines are constantly losing market share to the domestic companies and their own e-cars are selling so badly that they are simply being taken off the market, like the EQE. So far, this has not really been priced in.
@TorteInYourFace ah this e hype will soon come down again. Of course it will be the future, but combustion engines won't die out so quickly, at least not as quickly as the dinosaurs back then 😁

As always, a battle of raw materials and politics ...
Sometimes lithium, then oil again ... then gas again ... just as it suits the gentlemen up there ...

But what I always think to myself. Yes, China has the most e-cars ...but they pollute their air with other things 🤷🏽😅...what's worse now...?

Energy, power or whatever, will always go hand in hand with dirt. Nuclear energy also makes dirt!

And apparently only D is sooooo stupid and worries about it and plunges itself into ruin ?

How often have the people responsible actually fallen off the changing table as babies?
