Nvidia and AMD must share China sales with the US government

🍊😱🍊😱 $NVDA (+0,78 %)
$AMD (+1,57 %)

Nvidia and AMD must pay a portion of their sales of AI accelerators directly to the US government. Such a direct levy is unprecedented.

Nvidia and AMD must give the US government 15 percent of the revenue from AI accelerator sales in China. This was reported by the British Financial Times, citing informed circles, including from the US government. The unusual levy is a quid pro quo for the granting of export licenses for the Chinese market last week.

The US representative told the newspaper that Nvidia had agreed to give up 15 percent of revenue from H20 sales in China. AMD would hand over the same percentage from sales of the MI308 accelerators. According to experts, such a sales levy to a government is unprecedented.

The US Department of Commerce began issuing H20 export licenses on 8 August 2025, two days after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang met with US President Donald Trump. In April, the Trump administration imposed a ban on H20 exports to China.

Nvidia confirms sales deal with Trump

When asked, Nvidia told the Financial Times: "We are following the US government's rules for our participation in the global market."

Analysts at investment firm Bernstein estimate that Nvidia sold around 1.5 million H20 chips to China in 2025, generating sales of around 23 billion US dollars. Nvidia lost 15 billion US dollars due to stricter export restrictions to China, Huang said in May.

AMD declared in January 2025 that the margin in the second quarter would be lower at 43 percent. The reason for this was an inventory correction of USD 800 million due to export restrictions on AI hardware. This related to the MI308 accelerators adapted for China.

@GeldGenie I've been in LA for 4 days and I'm really wondering what improvements it has brought so far.
Food prices haven't changed a bit here (to be fair, CA has always been expensive, of course)
I filled up today for $6.10 a gallon and the Mexican Coke at my favorite taco stand now costs twice as much 😵‍💫

@GeldGenie take a look at who the last mayors were, then you'll know why :)

Was in NC with family and the whole block could only report good things so far at a neighborhood BBQ.

@Dividenden_Monteur The total costs of the tariffs are simply higher than the revenues. The "commitments" of trading partners will simply be renegotiated with the next sensible president. And why Trump is so intent on the trade deficit is beyond me. 😂

The cumulative inflation is sickening and wages are nowhere near adjusted. That should only fix painful deflation over time...

In Cali for much longer? 😊

@Tobiwankenobi500 In the USA, the presidential election is always plague vs. cholera ^^

The attitude is often a bubble. I don't know any Yank or voting Yank who is happy with Trump. In the end, the upper class, to which his friends belong, is hardly affected. 🤷‍♂️ is more likely to be dismissed as a traveling circus. But the uncertainty is having a negative impact on their businesses...

@GeldGenie I wonder how many more successes he has to celebrate before the last person realizes that he himself is senile, demented and short-sighted - but people rarely correct themselves

@Dividenden_Monteur California is the best example of socialism - not Trumpism - it takes a long time to penetrate it

I think the next president will feel the effects of Trump's policies. And be held responsible for it, even though it was his predecessor who caused it.

The important thing is that the Trump administration will no longer have any security concerns when enough money comes in.

They won't do it free without a concession - that will boost them

@PaulPK I was just thinking something along those lines! 😅 NVIDIA will get something for it, because I can't quite imagine them saying to Captain Orange: Here's 15% of our turnover, that's fine 😉

What are you worrying about? They'll make it back twice over with the customs deal with China. The trade restrictions on high-performance chips to China are being eased and the companies are being exempted from import duties. As a result, they make more sales, which benefits the US government and the companies themselves due to the high margins. In addition, falling sales lead to lower taxes. We can make a bet: The higher revenues will exceed the 15% by many times over.

Do we have to worry about them now?

@Cato_Bamboo
It's going to get bloody 🙈

@Tenbagger2024 Are you sure? I have the same feeling, so buckle up.........

Better this way than not selling at all, I don't think the deal is that bad, even if 15% is a lot. Could also sell nothing at all to China that would be the greater evil in terms of losses! It won't be a bloodbath, that's for sure!

@Dividenden-Stamm Better that way than not at all. That's right.

But the company-specific intervention/attack is just cheeky.
Imagen de perfil
@GeldGenie As soon as Trump disappears from office, things may look different again. But not making any sales in China for 3 years would be more than stupid and as soon as a new president is elected, the cards will be reshuffled!

The next president will be busy cleaning up the mess created by the Trump administration for quite some time.

Is the winter season already open everyone on the sheer ⛷️ let's go 😂

@Tenbagger2024 You are probably right with your statement. But we also have to be honest enough that companies have to adapt to the situation so as not to be harmed by it or at least limit the damage as much as possible!
