HSBC $HSBA (-0,58 %) has opened a Quantum Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Singapore, its second global hub after the UK, to drive quantum innovation and strengthen cyber security in the financial services sector.
The CoE in Singapore will focus on the practical applications of quantum technologies in banking and finance.
Initial research areas include post-quantum cryptography (PQC), quantum key distribution (QKD) and long-term infrastructure resilience, as well as exploring the potential of quantum computing in financial modeling, optimization and machine learning.
The center will also serve as a collaboration platform for regulators, researchers and fintech partners to accelerate the development of quantum-safe solutions.
HSBC is already active in this area, participating in the industry-wide QKD sandbox for secure financial communications together with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), DBS, OCBC, UOB, SPTel and SpeQtral.
