Uniper $UN01Germany's largest gas trader, shows that there are also positive developments despite the difficult times. The nationalized energy company will repay the federal government 2.6 billion euros - even more than originally announced. 💰
After Uniper was saved from insolvency in 2022 by massive aid from the German government, the company is now planning to repay the money in the first quarter of 2025. Previously, there was talk of €2.5 billion, which shows that Uniper is taking its financial obligations seriously.
The aid of around 13.5 billion euros was necessary after Russia drastically reduced its gas supplies due to the Ukraine conflict. Uniper had to make replacement purchases costing billions and was subsequently nationalized with a 99% stake.
The company already repaid 530 million euros to the state in September 2023. This was part of an amount that was withheld in the course of the gas dispute with Gazprom.
In future, the federal government plans to reduce its stake in Uniper to a maximum of 25 percent plus one share by the end of 2028. It will be interesting to see how Uniper develops over the next few years.
