⚠️ Attention to all BYD shareholders at Trade Republic: Incorrect tax booking in the stock split!

Hello everyone,

I would like to draw your attention to a serious problem with the settlement of the BYD stock split (ISIN: CNE100000296) by Trade Republic.

TR booked the corporate action as a fully taxable capital gain and paid taxes accordingly. This is demonstrably wrong, as the measure should have been at least partially tax-free. As a result, not only was my investment negatively affected by an unjustified tax deduction, but my purchase price (equity) was also incorrectly adjusted.

When I specifically asked on whose instructions this booking was made, I only received the answer from customer service that they had no information on this.

By way of comparison:

At other brokers, such as Flatex, the error has already been officially confirmed and the overpaid tax refunded to customers.

I call on all affected BYD shareholders at TR:

  • Check your summer 2025 statements carefully!

  • Write to customer service and demand a correction of the booking and the cost price.

The more of us who get in touch, the greater the pressure on TR to correct this error system-wide.

As I unfortunately only receive standard answers in the chat, I will now also escalate the matter in writing by post as a warning letter to the legal department of Trade Republic.

Let's exchange ideas here and fight together for correct processing!

@All-in-or-nothing I have already written to them but unfortunately the issue with the taxes is none of their business, I actually got an answer within 12 hours 😅

TR is really the very last store.

I once phoned the German Taxpayers Association. The mistake was not only made by TR at the Volksbank, something went very wrong in my case. In any case, the Bund gets a lot of questions about it and is not 100% sure how to tax it and the colleague who normally takes care of such things is apparently on vacation 😀

@Hotte1909 So at TR it is also corrected and Flatex has also counted it as normal bonus shares, it is enough if we have to give up 50%, there is no need to tax our bonus shares 😅

@Derspekulant1 yes, of course it will fit at some point 😉

@Hotte1909 after the 3rd attempt it would of course be great 😂

@Derspekulant1 It is always clear that in case of doubt, the processor will do this first and, if necessary, make the correction afterwards. This will not change. Why? Because otherwise they are liable for the incorrectly omitted collection of the Kap Est themselves, so in the event of uncertainty and time pressure, it is first withheld and deducted and then corrected. You can involve the Bafin however you like....
@Derspekulant1 Have you received confirmation from TR that it will be corrected?

@jkbsmn92 check out the post by @Aktien-Investor, he shared screenshots of an email that says it.

@Hotte1909 everything has been running smoothly at Smartbroker+ since 11.06. 😅 and as far as I know, the bonus shares must also be booked at €0.00 and would therefore only be taxed when they are sold. (within the FSA it is fully charged to the FSA / outside the FSA as normal with capital gains tax)

@SAUgut77 I have no idea, I don't really care 😉

@Hotte1909 then 👍🏻 fits

@Derspekulant1 The question is also what happens if you transfer your custody account during the clarification process. Any ideas on this?

As mentioned several times before, I have no such problems with the split on SB+ and everything went smoothly 🤷🏻‍♂️

@SAUgut77 yes well unfortunately we know that the quality of TR has deteriorated considerably, I'm also considering changing but even that could become a science unfortunately. They used to be good in the beginning but that was it 😅

@Derspekulant1 can warmly recommend SB+ to you

@SAUgut77 I do not because of their custodian bank.
Imagen de perfil
@Dividenden-Sammler Why? As I said, I haven't been able to complain for years.
Imagen de perfil
@SAUgut77 Do I understand the Haufe texts correctly that no tax should have been charged on the bonus shares received?

And right back in the comments: "Is I THE ONLY ONE who's HAPPY at TR sUPEr?"

Read my last post. I waited 5 months for my securities transfer :D

@CMustermann that's why I don't dare to make a transfer at the moment, a lot of people have already had mega problems. I'm also really unhappy there unfortunately 😅

@Derspekulant1 Ditto! Transfer gives an error message with a timer. Thanks to support, I can no longer access the app because I had to reinstall it, which means I can no longer log in because of the same error with the timer.
Once I've made the transfer, I'll make three crosses and hope my new choice with ZERO is a good one. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Did TR tax all bonus shares or only some of them?

Not only taxed but so that it was like a purchase and pushed on the equity and still taxed 😅 I was over 40% up before and now I'm in the red. No, my equity has risen from €9.21 to €13.01.

@WarrenWobuffet My 10:8 share was booked at €14.50 per share and taxes were deducted from this. Is that correct?
Imagen de perfil
@M3R0W1NG3R there should not actually be any taxes on it or they may not affect your income
Imagen de perfil
@Derspekulant1 TR still claims that it is a dividend and that the issuer has passed this on.

I received an email from TR on 07.08.2025 pointing out the problems and how to solve them. I'll link a screenshot on my page.

@Aktien-Investor Thank you very much!
@Aktien-Investor I don't see a screenshot

I also only get standard answers and have a negative entry as a "Bonus Issue" in the statement. According to support, this is supposed to be the tax deduction.
For me it is extremely unclear what is right and wrong and how the problem can be tackled.

It's really blatant how many negative stories have accumulated on gq about TR. When you read that, you can only wonder why the store still has any customers at all ...

The fact remains: S-Broker (Sparkassen-Broker) is not particularly cheap and doesn't look that hip, but it works.

@Charmin would also like to switch, but that would be the next problem 😂
Imagen de perfil
Support pointed out to me that the issuer had titled the split as a dividend.

Have others also received this answer?
1
Imagen de perfil
@TradingHase Unfortunately, this is the standard answer and we will continue to receive it until it is no longer the case 😅

@Derspekulant1 I received an answer to a further query about the whereabouts of the "separate settlement of the bonus write-off" described in the facts.
This states that "the necessary changes will be made".
It will be interesting to see what this means in the end, but it is at least a departure from the previous communication that everything was correct.

TR described the procedure for splitting and taxation in an email. That sounded plausible to me. What exactly should be wrong with the calculation?
Imagen de perfil
@C_Montgomery_Burns everything is clearly stated in the article and no, there is a correction so it was not done correctly.
3
Imagen de perfil
@C_Montgomery_Burns Obvious, yes, because you don't fully understand or know better. However, the fact seems to be that the bonus shares are not initially taxable on receipt.
Imagen de perfil
In my case, the 10:8 share was booked and taxed at €14.50 per share on TR! Is that correct?
Taxes never affect your investment. Instead, they are the effects and charges on your profits as a percentage. However, the fact that TR does not know how to pay taxes and sometimes charges several hundred euros too much, which you have to run after several tickets for months, is also an old shoe.
