Attention getquin community now comes something new,

because today I would like to present you an alternative investment opportunity. I guess that 90% have not heard of it yet, or are not invested in it. We are talking about Web3 Domains, Crypto Domains, or from time to time also called NFT Domains or Blockchain Domains. How lucrative the whole thing is I can not say yet, because the whole thing is still in its infancy. The following information comes from my own research. If there are any mistakes in my research, please write it in the comments. Comments, suggestions and opinions are as always welcome. This article is primarily intended for #Krypto enthusiasts.

In order to hopefully produce relevant and good content, I have followed the two posts by @Lorena and @stefanieschmn oriented. Both contributions are definitely worth reading.

What is a domain?

Very briefly, it is the name or link of a website, for example https://google.de. As a rule, domains cannot be bought, but only rented. That means you pay a yearly amount to be able to use a domain. Usually they are renewed automatically, but if this does not happen, it can be very annoying and expensive. You may not believe it, but even Google forgot to renew his domain google.com.ar and a young man took it. Here you can read the article https://www.googlewatchblog.de/2021/04/google-domain-vergessen-ein/

By the way, the most expensive domain in the world is said to have been the domain sex.com with a proud sales value of 13 million USD. Domains can be very lucrative. But I don't want to go too much into normal domains now, but focus on the so-called Web3 domains.

What is a Web3 domain?

In short, a Web3 domain is a domain that resides on a blockchain. In the following, I would like to talk exclusively about the provider Unstoppable Domains.

Web3 Domain Provider

On the website https://unstoppabledomains.com/?ref=c7f39c4a3f45424 (This is my referral link. With a purchase of over 40$ we both get 10$ for free. It is important to say here that you should read the whole article before you decide for or against a purchase.) you can buy Web3 domains. I say deliberately buy and not rent, because you really buy them. You don't have to pay month by month like with normal domains, but you buy the Web3 domain and own it forever, unless you want to sell it again. As far as I know Unstoppable Domain is the only provider that offers real buying of Web3 domains. There are other Web3 domain providers, but I don't use them because you have to pay annually.

Key figures

  • At Unstoppable Domains meanwhile more than 2.9 million domains registered
  • 297 different tokens are supported
  • 604 integrations gives
  • with incredible 727 partners works together with Unstoppable Domains

Which partners and integrations are available?

To be honest, I can't keep up with all the partners, integrations and new features. I subscribed to the Unstoppable Domains newsletter and new features are added virtually every day. From my point of view it is growing rapidly and I am excited about the future.

Here are a few of the partners and integrations of Unstoppable Domains

and many more

Now we come to the most exciting question. What are the advantages of a Web3 domain from Unstoppable Domains?

Before we get to that, another question: Who of you knows his wallet address by heart? I guess only the fewest, because a wallet address consists of an eternally long series of numbers and letters.

I know my wallet address or my wallet for my wallets if you will and it is very very simple compared to the usually endless number of letters and numbers.

noel1997.wallet

This is my wallet, because my domain noel1997.wallet is a wallet respectively a combination of several wallets, a domain and my Web3 username at the same time. I can access over 275 crypto wallet addresses in this single short Web3 domain. It really doesn't get any simpler than that. As my own NFT Gallery I can use it as well. Also, as I said, you only have to buy the domain once and then you have it forever. All the advantages and features I could not explore and test yet, but I'll keep you up to date. Also available as app access you can use the Web3 domain.

What are the disadvantages?

I see only one disadvantage at the moment. Not all browsers support Web3 domains as far as I know. More disadvantages are not known to me at the moment.

How expensive is the whole thing?

The cheapest domains cost 5$, the most expensive over 100000$. 5$ for a domain, which you then own forever, I find very cheap. Just the advantage to gather all wallets in one place would be worth it to me because of the simplicity. Basically, the shorter the domain, the more expensive. Most domains are around 20$. Here is the link again in case someone decides to buy one. https://unstoppabledomains.com/?ref=c7f39c4a3f45424

How does the whole thing work?

You register on the page https://unstoppabledomains.com/?ref=c7f39c4a3f45424

choose one or more domains you like and buy them with your preferred payment method. You don't need cryptocurrencies to buy the domains. You will then have a menu for every single Web3 domain where you can manage different things. (see picture)

Do I enter the whole thing at getquin?

Yes I enter all my purchased domains as alternative investments in a newly created portfolio. This way I always know what I paid for them and how much the Web3 domains total out of my investments.

My conclusion

I would definitely not rush now and put all my money into it, because as you can see on the picture the interest in crypto and NFT has decreased lately (see picture), but I think it is a topic that you should at least keep in mind and where it can't hurt to secure at least one or the other Web3 domain. Whether you can earn a lot of money with it, I can not say yet, but I would like to secure at least a place in the front row and have therefore acquired a few Web3 domains.

Interesting in any case, but some important things are missing for me. What blockchain are the domains on, it seems to run on Polygon and Ethereum according to the website? What would the process look like if I speculatively buy a domain like getquin.eth and want to transfer it later after getquin bought it from me for 15 million? And are there marketplaces for domains? And an obvious disadvantage is that, depending on the domain, one could draw conclusions about you and your wealth if your wallet is deposited there. If I were a hacker, I would then target you when the wallet is nicely full 👀

Thanks for the SHORT insight. I expect more from the length of the text in the future, than just this short line. 😉🤷🏻‍♂️ 169 lines of text is just so below average for the introduction of a text from the TL;DR Club. But ok, don't want to be so strict, because you're probably not a Finfluencer... 👊

Thank you very much! So never heard :) Surely the domain lorena.org is even more expensive than 13 million USD 🌝

Nice post. I read it all the way through. Thanks for that. It's great when posts are made here that add value to knowledge. However, my conclusion is: Web3 domains do not interest me. But that should not make the amount bad.

A very good contribution. However, I believe that here the big profit will be missing. The brand names are all gun and can not be taken. Short words such as names or items quickly cost 5000-10000$. Who has the balls and the Para can grab there of course but whether it will be profitable in the end, unfortunately, we do not know.

Thanks for the insight. Since the whole thing depends too much on the crypto market, it's not for me. And these domains also don't have the same acceptance as classic TLDs. Is the question if they will ever get it

I am always looking for the benefit behind an investment. What benefit do I have or does someone have who buys a domain from me? Yes, I can deposit public addresses. But can I then also simply send coins there? Similar easy as if someone knows my PayPal name? What advantage do I have compared to a QR code with my address? What else can I do with it? And who takes care of this "function" of the domain? Will it remain even if the provider no longer exists? Can I transfer domains? ...? Otherwise good contribution. For my taste too much #reflink - therefore no CCF from me 😘
