$MSFT (+1,55 %) vs $CSNDX (+1,04 %)

Thinking of dumping my modest 10 shares of Microsoft and shifting into Nasdaq or ftse instead.

The background is that I have owned Microsoft for almost three years and have only made a 30% return. I have owned Nasdaq-100 since October 23, i.e. 1 year, and am already up 28%.

Somehow I don't see any real growth in MSFT anymore, lately it's just been going sideways.

It's just a thought, not a must. Besides, I'm more of an etf investor, I still have BLK, NVDA and KO, but I won't sell NVDA, and the other two are for dividends.

I am open and grateful for your suggestions.

The fact that Microsoft was not able to do so much in 2024 can be seen in my portfolio, where I have been saving the position monthly since February, but I am absolutely convinced in the long term.

....and what if $MSFT makes +40% next year after a sale?

It is also possible that you sell and $MSFT falls 10% and the Nasdaq falls 40%.

The statements "only 10% p.a. is too little" will still fall on the feet of many here...

Do what makes you happy with your portfolio. I'm currently considering the same thing. Without question, MSFT is truly a good company and belongs in every portfolio, in whatever form. Most people are already invested in ETFs anyway. For me, it is the duplication that is driving me to consider reallocating.

I've had microsoft in my portfolio for ages and thought I'd buy more at €430. Well, that went badly. But in the long term I still think it's a top stock. Just switch the trend to All Time, even if it seems to you that the chart is just running, you have to get 10% return per year first.

10% is ok for a "safe" stock. Plus the approx. 1% dividend you should have. Your Ek will be around 270. Of course, you could say you bought at the wrong time. Probably at the ATH at the time? After all, 2022 was also included. That's when pretty much everything fell to its knees. The Nasdaq was of course driven extremely high by AI in the last 2 years.
But 2022 is a kink there too. If you had bought more there, you would have made almost 50% in the 3 years, which is not so bad again.

I'm curious to see when it will finally really crack again, because anyone who calls 10% per year modest apparently hasn't seen that often 😅

Not wrong in principle. However, there is also a reason why Microsoft has a high weighting in all "standard" ETFs. 2022 was also quite a sideways year for Microsoft, but I always believe that Microsoft never disappoints. Alternatively, you could hold a smaller position with leverage and rebalance the rest. That would also be a good entry point at the moment. That way you can maintain any returns with smaller amounts. I'm currently facing the same decision.

Years ago I sold them because nothing happened for a good two years, and the next year they went through the roof. And that continued for the next few years. :-(
I recently got back into it.
