Experience report Traderepublic card 💳

I've been using the Traderepublic card for a little over two months now. As I have also been on vacation abroad for two weeks now, I would like to briefly share my experiences with the Traderepublic card with you.

I ordered the card in mid-February and received it in the post two days later. Since then, I've been using the card for my daily spending to take advantage of the saveback, the round-up function and the interest on the "parked" cash. Setting up the Saveback and Round Up was simple and intuitive. I did not experience any problems when investing the saveback or the change, as is sometimes shared here on Getquin.

The card in use abroad

For two weeks now, I have been traveling to several countries with the card in my luggage. I was all the more curious to see how the card would perform here before I started my trip. After two weeks, I can only report positive things: the card is accepted everywhere, which I assumed would be the case as it is ultimately a Visa debit card.

However, I found the question of how the fees for foreign currency transactions and the saveback work more interesting. To summarize, I can report:

  • Traderepublic charges no extra fee for foreign currency payments
  • Saveback also works perfectly for foreign currency payments
  • Traderepublic converts payments in other currencies into euros at what appears to be a relatively up-to-date exchange rate

Here is a screenshot of a payment from the supermarket as an example:

The saveback on the trip is of course - how could it be otherwise - invested in $BKNG (+0,62 %) invested 😉

In principle, the card works the same way abroad as it does in Germany. My experience with cashless and change-free payments abroad was so positive that I quickly decided to increase my position in Visa $V (+1,58 %) in Visa.

What experiences have you had with your Traderepublic card so far?

Stay tuned,

Yours Michael Scott

Thank you for the experience report. The foreign payments were particularly exciting for me, as I intend to use the card very actively on vacation.
So far I haven't had any problems with cashback and roundup, I really like it and I hope that a real current account will soon be coming to TR

@SirCopy According to Traderepublic, the current account is coming soon. What exactly "soon" means remains to be seen 😅

@RealMichaelScott I would switch immediately 😂👌🏻

Another plus point for me is that neither the card number nor the CVV are printed on the card itself, which makes it more difficult for fraudsters to write them down quickly, where possible fraud attempts can be minimized.

@fastlane Yes, that's true. But 99% of the time I only use them digitally and not physically.
Imagen de perfil
I can also share your experiences!

The only thing I don't like about it is that I now pay for things from my "savings account" at TR rather than from my current account.
This makes the whole expense handling etc. a bit more complicated for me - but there's always something 😁

@ag84 The current account is supposedly already planned and should come "soon" according to TR. That will make things a lot easier.

@RealMichaelScott I'm very curious 😁

I currently have to send money to Canada and the USA more frequently. The bank transfers are a disaster and outrageously expensive (thanks to comdirect).

That's why I use PayPal. But you get a crappy exchange rate there.

However, if you have a credit card, you can use it to pay, have the provider change the money (free of charge in this case) and still use PayPal.

This is relatively hidden during the transaction, but works perfectly with the card.

@CMustermann Sounds like a good method 😉

What about withdrawing cash? Are there really no fees abroad from €100?
2
@Ricci94 yep, I can confirm that!
2
Imagen de perfil
@Ricci94 I haven't tried that, but @Mike_Invest has already given you the answer 😅

@Mike_Invest super thanks 👍😊
Imagen de perfil
@Mike_Invest And the bank from which you withdraw the money at the ATM does not charge any fees?
Imagen de perfil
@bufallo What the bank charges from the ATM is independent of the fact that TR does not charge a fee. Depending on the country, you may have to pay the fee one way or another or, as in Vietnam, you may find some banks that waive it.

I have been using it for about 3 weeks and am also convinced.
The quality of the plastic card was unfortunately modest, as it already had small scratches on receipt.

We won't be going abroad for another month, but I'm already reassured :)

Thank you for the experience report. The experience with foreign currencies is particularly helpful.

My buddy and I also recently applied for a USA visa and had to pay 21$.
He paid about 20,58€ via Paypal and I paid 19,45€ via TR Card (plus 19 cent cashback)

I've also already received the €45 cashback over 3 months 😁

Visa is simply a blatant thing. You don't want to get in because it's hard to imagine how it can go on like this, but you also know that it will always go on like this. Also much better represented than Mastercard, every debit I see is from Visa
1
Imagen de perfil
@cashwithhead Of course, you never know whether it will continue like this. You could probably say the same thing back in 2015 😅

But Visa is generally very stable with low volatility. I think it's a solid stock that provides a certain stability in the portfolio.
Imagen de perfil
@cashwithhead It is incredibly difficult to establish a payment system that can be recognized and used worldwide. Locally, on the other hand, I see more competition when I look at Asia. There, people prefer to use local payment systems that are used for all kinds of things. In the West, on the other hand, I can well imagine Master/Visa debit cards becoming the standard.

Great experience report, especially with the use abroad. Even without any "hype" here.

I've been using mine for over a month now and everything works perfectly for me too. Incidentally, it was also the first time that I had stored a card on my iPhone. The quality of the card itself is just poor, the first time I swiped it (to activate it) the device "immortalized" itself in the card, but in the best case it should never leave my wallet anyway.

👍

@Gerit then you just have a scratched mirror haha 😅
Imagen de perfil
@RealMichaelScott right, my mirrors are all scratched anyway, but I can't do without the claws.
1
@Gerit waaaas?! you put them through the kebab slicer? No wonder the appliance has immortalized itself there 😅😅😅😅

Thank you for your feedback.

It seems to be very lucrative for those who travel a lot or often pay with the card.

I was able to use the card myself in Ghana, Africa 🇬🇭 without any problems. I can only have positive things to say about the card.

You don't get a saveback when you use Curve! That really annoys me!

I can fully agree with the experience report. I have already used the card several times at home and abroad (China, UK).
So far, no problems with acceptance of the card and very good, up-to-date exchange rates for foreign currency transactions.
Withdrawing cash has also gone smoothly so far (€1 fee <€100; free of charge from €100).

Sure. Works well and intuitively. But cashback goes to $UKW 😎 Right @Simpson 😁✌🏻

It's hard to believe that there are no foreign currency fees 😲. Now I need to rethink my card setup... could be a real alternative. Thanks for the post! 🙏🏻

I cashback into msci world . always thought the 100€ monthly i put into msci is then increased by the cashback, but that is somehow bought extra. just where do i see how much has been bought so far / shares currently / value ? Thanks Lg Dirk

@market_analyst_kntdf by clicking on the saveback and the transactions are listed there individually. For example, for May 2nd, if you click on it, you will see a pdf statement with shares and price.

Unfortunately, this is suboptimal because you have to manually add up the total number of shares purchased.
1
@RealMichaelScott well hopefully that will come ... and how do i sell them again ?
Imagen de perfil
@market_analyst_kntdf in the same way as you sell other things. You will receive your savings plan plus the saveback shares in your custody account as normal.
@RealMichaelScott So the shares are added up ... interesting ;-)

What I'm missing are various settings with the card. Such as withdrawal limits, usage limits, country restrictions, etc. So many security aspects. They really need to improve that.

Imagen de perfil
@Luffy3D2Y Yes, I agree with you. I think a lot will come with time.
Imagen de perfil
Not bad at all. Swissquote also offers a bank card (Mastercard), but the conditions are not so attractive now, Swiss bonus halt🙄 For every transaction you get 0.5% "Trading Credit" cashback, you can pay in all currencies and at 13 without exchange fees. And you can only withdraw money 5 times a month for free, which I think is a joke. And that for a whopping CHF 6.90 a month.
1
Imagen de perfil
@Alumdria that's better than nothing. I don't know what the situation is like elsewhere in Switzerland 🙈
1
Imagen de perfil
@RealMichaelScott We definitely don't have anywhere near as great offers as you do. For example, we don't have savings plans where you can invest from as little as CHF 25/euro without any fees. I really envy you for that😅

Do you then pay with the available cash?

What cards are there from TR, is there one made of metal or something like that, I think I heard something like that somewhere
Mostrar respuesta
The card from TR makes no sense for me, as I use this KTO as a savings account to earn 4%. I want to save money and not spend it 😎
