Wait, PayPal will take over the processing of payments via a transfer system with the unique selling point that it works without pesky payment service providers? Is that from the Postillon?
••
@Madhatter5566 Paypal already has Bitcoin integration in the USA. Don't think that the city wants to deal with Bitcoin in a big way and therefore buys services from Paypal in order to be able to accept Bitcoin.
••
@stefan_21 So what is the difference to the normal currency if there is a payment service provider in between? Bitcoin via a service provider who manages it and gets one hundred percent in return and intervenes in the event of problems is exactly the opposite of what bitcoin should be about.
••
@Madhatter5566 The difference is that you can use a service provider - but you don't have to.
It's the same as with people who buy Bitcoin ETFs. They are prepared to pay fees so that they don't have to take on the responsibility themselves.

••
@stefan_21 Well, if your path to the currency is characterized by Paypal, Visa and Mastercard again acting as service providers in between, then cheers. Then you can pay directly with your local currency again.
Bitcoiners should really start with the Postillion.

••
@Madhatter5566 What do you think is wrong with having a free choice? Everyone can do what they want. You don't have that option in the traditional financial system. You have to rely on banks and financial service providers. With Bitcoin, everyone can decide freely.
••
@stefan_21 Apparently not if the functionality comes purely from payment service providers. And you already have it, the choice. It's called cash, Stefan! Maybe you've already heard of it. It's been around for quite a long time.
••
@Madhatter5566 The cash choice is 1. only available offline and 2. for how much longer...
When the states or central banks come around the corner with their CBDCs in the next few years, the question is how long this choice will still exist.
The functionality does not come from the payment service providers. But you can fall back on them if, for example, you don't want to take care of the safekeeping etc. yourself. Self-custody means taking responsibility and unfortunately we live in a time when people prefer to hand over their responsibility möchten🤷♂️

••
@stefan_21 Ummm, so you have the same choice with cash as with Bitcoin, only better. And yes, I can also give my cash to a bank for safekeeping. It's been around for a long time, Stefan.
Say yes, Postillion.
Say yes, Postillion.
••
@Madhatter5566 However, you cannot send cash over the Internet. If you make online transfers, you lose practically all the advantages that cash has.
What I don't understand is that you think having a choice is an advantage with cash, but not with Bitcoin?

••
@stefan_21 Umm, what is your cash at the bank? What you can transfer electronically?
I mean Bitcoin is just reinventing the wheel (after being invented as a square something) and selling it as a world first. Which is really funny. If you give bitcoin to the payment service provider, you lose all the advantages bitcoin had. Touchee
