1. EZ raises key interest rate to 1.25
In the fight against record-high inflation, the central bank raises interest rates as never before. The interest rate on deposits of banks increases from 0% to 0.75%. The ECB is thus making it profitable again for banks to store money rather than lend it out. Whether these measures will work remains to be seen.

Special: Russia's economy to decline more sharply
Russian economists have published a report warning that the Russian economy will decline sharply. The Western sanctions are to blame for this. For 2023 a decrease of the GDP is prognosticated by 8,3 per cent and for 2024 even again by 11,9%. Another negative factor is the massive loss of skilled workers due to emigration. Germany's GDP is expected to fall by only 0.7% in 2023 and even rise again by 1.7% in 2024.
