Within a year, the price of lumber has risen nearly 400 percent. 1000 board feet, about 2.36 cubic meters of lumber, currently trades for $1630 on the world market. At the beginning of May 2020, it was still around 330 dollars. The price has therefore increased almost fivefold.
The reasons for the enormous price increases: First, a pest has caused major damage in Canada, the world's largest timber exporter. This shortage is having an impact on the price. Secondly, the Corona pandemic has led to a construction boom worldwide.
