Interesting! Can the zakat theoretically be compared with a kind of "church tithe"?

Hi @Staatsmann:) Glad you are interested in the topic. Zakat is not really comparable to a church tithe. It is not a "liability" to the church or in this case to the "mosque". The Zakat must reach 100% needy people and may not be used for other things. A Muslim must pay the Zakat, if he has a certain fortune beyond one year. Currently this is about 5.000€. However, things of the everyday life are not added to it, so for example the car, the own-used real estate etc. If the fortune exceeds this minimum limit 1/40, thus 2.5% are to be donated. In the modern world, this is usually done by aid organizations, which accept donations as Zakat and bring it to the man/woman. Simply put, it can be understood as a kind of wealth tax, which does not go to a construct, state, etc., but benefits people in need. With it the world becomes perhaps also only something a better place! :)

@halal_investieren Ah, so like Zedaka for the Jews or almsgiving for the Christians. 😇

@halal_investieren Is this mandatory or voluntary?

@Staatsmann This is more in the direction of zakat, but in my opinion it is something more obligatory. From the word composition I would compare "Zedaka" with the "Sadaqa" with the Muslims. Sadaqa can also be given voluntarily, the amount and time of giving is not as strict as zakat. The Zakat is already accrues annually to a precisely calculable amount. Background goes with all but in the same direction! 🤗

@giraffidae It is already obligatory. Before the criticism comes: Yes, not every Muslim does it. The world would probably be a bit nicer if extremely rich people and Muslims in particular would do that. There it is however naturally again all the more "heavily" for one 2,5% annually to donate. There one talks then already about Mios, which one would have to donate. There everyone must come even with its internal pig dog torecht. That does not change the fact that it is mandatory! :)
