$AVTX (+0,93 %) announced today that it has a method by which the cotton component from clothing can be recycled to make plastic again. A great innovation in my opinion because at the moment just about nothing kwa clothing is recycled.
The process involves using hydrochloric acid to dissolve the cotton component in clothing, which can then be styled as glucose from the hydrochloric acid. The polyester component does not dissolve in this process and can be easily filtered out.
The released glucose can be used in the recently built plant to make FDCA, which in turn is a raw material to make PEF (vegetable PET plastic).
Through this inovation, there is less need to use glucose from the food chain to make plastic polymers.
Avantium seems to be turning the future of plastics on its head, still a long way to go, but with potential.
Will Avantium set up a complete chain in which waste and CO2 can be renewed into a high-quality raw material for the production of plastic? Avantium has more pots on the fire for which unfortunately the financing is not yet available.
I have great hope that Avantium will improve the world and create shareholder value in the process.
